Euro tail lights?

Was there any difference between the US and Euro tail lights in 1992? If so, what are the differences and what are the Euro part numbers?

Ken:

There is a minor difference. The U.S. NAM spec rear tails have a running light at the sides that the euro makers do not have and at that spot there is a slight difference in the appearance of the plastic reflector. You have to really pay attention to see this difference. Yes I have euro tails in my car and 600Eric purchased new euros for his car, but these are not inexpensive.

I don't have the part numbers handy, but if you really want them I will dig up the part numbers.

Jeff is correct. The Euro tails look very, very much like the 1994-1995 USA tails without the orange indicators. I'm not sure there's enough difference to make it worth buying Euro tails, when you can get 94-95 US tails relatively inexpensively. If you want to lose the corner markers, remove the bulbs on both sides.

Overall I love the Euro look, but I have never found the tail lamps to have enough difference to be worth even the effort, much less the expense. I actually think the illuminated sidelights are a conceivable safety benefit, not to mention that one would have to rig up a way to prevent false bulb-out indications on the dash, since you won't have side marker bulbs to power up.

Just my two cents, I'm sure I'm not inventing any new wheels here, but my solution to US versus Euro lights has always been the pile them on. For example, on the front lights I will typically run both the Euro parking lamps in the headlights AND the side marker/USA parking lamps in parallel. The wattage is low enough that nothing gets upset.

I would probably do something similar with the Euro tails if I absolutely had to have them, and an illumination provision was possible given their configuration. I would probably try to do something while still using the USA bulb holders...

I have gen-you-wine Euro tails on my 1987 300D... there is no bulb holder for the rear side markers, and the bulb-out module is happy as long as *both* bulbs are not installed. Not sure if the later (92-95 vintage) bulb-out module is as forgiving. Note the Euro reflector does not have the hole for the US side market bulb; you would need to use USA reflectors and bulb holders with Euro lens if you wanted to retain the side markers. At that point, the 94-95 USA tails make more sense...

Ken,

For what it is worth the left side part number is:
A 124 820 01 66. If I had to bet the right side is probably: A 124 820 02 66.
