Front license plate

Hey Guys,

Since I moved to Vermont, I need to mount a front license plate. The front bumper license plate filler that is currently on my car has no cut-out for a license plate like I have seen on other E500E's. Are they available from MB? Anyone have a part number? Anyone have a used one for sale?

Thanks!

Andy

Yep, they are available from MB, but you'll need to get it painted. 124-885-27-23-9999, MSRP is $69, it comes from MB in primer and ready for paint.

What color is your car, and is your bumper the stock color, or has it been painted? No dice just keeping your front plate up on the dash, eh?

:tumble:

Would you be interested in selling your current piece? I would be glad to work a deal as I have what you need and can replace it from one of the many parts cars locally. (I'd like to have both). The piece you have is quite a bit harder to find and MB gets around $100 for them last time I looked.

Thanks for the quick response as always Dave! I'm boring old 199 pearl black with stock color bumper. Maybe someone has a used one out there, or I guess I could paint it myself? $69 MSRP is not bad, should be a bit less from Tom or Lionel.

Interesting offer Drew. If you can get one in pearl black that may work for me.

Drew, the blank panel in primer is 124-885-28-23-9999 and the price is down to $69 list, or ~$55 wholesale. It had been closer to $100 but the price dropped a couple years ago.

For those with 92-93 models with plain black impact strips, the blank panel is 124-885-20-23 and is also - you guessed it - $69 list.

:pc1:

I didn't look close to see you own a 94 model, Andy. Black is easy. Pearl Black - not so much. Since they have come down in price (thanks, Dave) it may not be worth it even if I did come across one.

I think I have a spare plate-holder in the normal Alto Gray (stock lower cladding color with 199) if anyone happens to need one. It's in decent condition.

I am actually looking for the front plate-delete panel. It is currently on my parts purchase list, but if someone has a good condition one for sale I might be a buyer. Andy?

Greg, are you going to run your car without a front license plate?

Yea, that's my plan. I know that VA doesn't like that....but the fine is fairly low if I recall. It will look such much better without the front plate!
+1. I do the same here in Spudland.

:hiding:

I don't run a front plate on my E500 here in Texas, nor did I in Oregon. Never had a problem in Oregon. A few months after I moved here, a Texas DPS trooper pulled me over one morning on the way to work for not having a front plate. He gave me a written warning and I never did anything about it.

I see dozens of cars driving around every single day here without front plates. It seems to be some sort of mass civil disobedience, particularly among owners of nicer cars.

I have run many cars in the People's Republic of Oregon without issue to date. Of course all it takes is one time to change that. Until than I'm going commando!

:whistling2:

If you were in a Republic you wouldn't need a license plate, it is the state of Oregon that requires the license plate because you are not the owner of the motor vehicle.

Speaking as an honorably retired State Trooper (I'll probably regret divulging that bit of info), I have always felt that citing someone for lack of a front plate fell under the category of "Chickenshit Citations". Unless the encounter followed the scenario of .......I suspect something seriously criminal or unsafe and I quickly need an uncontested probable cause reason to make a stop on the vehicle. As long as the encounter went along in a civil and respectful manner, the f/plateless citizen was merrily on his way once again. Just saying.............

It came to $51.xx from MB of Gainesville. They are in stock in NJ.

Wow, that's a great price. I recall paying around $125 some years back. This is a good time to stock up on this part -- it's likely that it will be discontinued in the future.

That i exactly what I have been told by my police friends.

8899, in Fairfax you should be fine...honestly because its a Mercedes.

560 = 0 tickets (3 years)
Civic = 3 tickets (tint, plate, plate) (1 year)
S2000 = tint, plate, exhaust, suspension, decals, searched. (1 year)
300TE = 0 tickets (1 year)
E 320 (210) = 0 tickets (2 years)
all cars are/was similar modified.

notice a pattern? ;)

btw, would these plate holders work on a S124?
