is the radiator support welded or bolted on?

My rad support is bent and I was hoping to replace it rather than bend it back into shape. I hope it's bolted, because if its welded i wont be replacing it. So is it welded or bolted on?

Hi, I guess it's a 124 034 you have? Both rad supports, 034 and 036 are welded to the chassis legs but they are not the same.
The 034 tubular c:a 1" thick pipe w two brackets coming from the bumper x-member is not too hard to rectify, my 400E had a
minor impact to the rad bar thus giving the radiator a dangerously close position to the fan. I had to straighten the bracket
at that side and also move the support some 2" forward, not too complicated but it needed a good heating by a torch (red hot)

The 500E support is another story, same as the R129 and that I think have to be replaced or at least removed straightened and
welded back into place. For the 500 supp. it could be said, no longer avail. but you can still buy the R129 counterpart,,Roger

Roger is correct. All 124's - including the 400E/E420 - use the same radiator support; except for the 500E which uses a completely different (and much better!) design. Both types are welded to the frame.

I've never heard of a bent 500E radiator support, due to the location, you'd break a whole lot of other items before the support would bend.

Bending the "standard" 124 support is very common. It can be bent back out but it's a real PITA to do this as DIY. It can be done without heating, I've done this a couple times "cold". The standard 124 support sticks down below the bumper and is the first thing that hits concrete parking curbs. Many a 124 radiator has been killed this way.

Eric bent his support back into place on one of his cars by tethering it to a tree and putting the car in reverse ;)

True story.

Last time I spoke to Cpt Fast, he was planning to move the family up north, closer to Sacramento I believe. That was about 5 months ago.

This question is regarding a w124, sorry for not soecifying.

I think the part I'm talking about is not the rad support.. The part I'm talking about is the flat metal that runs at the top of the radiator and headlights and attaches to inside of the fenders.
