Seems like a common job and was searching around but didn't see a "how-to." Is there one kicking around? Curious about how to undo the 8mm on the inboard edge of the headlight (behind grille).

Replacing the facelift lenses is straightforward once the headlamp assemblies are removed from the car.
It is possible to replace the lenses with the lamps on the car but it is not fun.
Be careful not to break the retaining tabs off the lamp assembly, if they snap off, best you can do is attempt an epoxy repair... if that doesn't work, you're hosed.
Also the headlight wiper motor seems to prevent the headlight from coming out of the aperture. Am I supposed to separate the headlight wiper motor from the headlight before removing the headlight from the car?
It takes a bit of maneuvering to get them to come out but they will, with the wiper motors attached. Make sure to disconnect the hoses that go to the headlight squirters.

Thats not necessarily true. Can't speak for all flavors of W124 headlights but a while back I picked up a set of standard euros, they arrive damaged and most all of the tabs were busted off. I did try glue/epoxy them back on, but that is an effort in futility. But after looking at the lenses and the headlights, I came to the conclusion that whomever designed these also designed a mechanism to attach the headlight lenses to the buckets via screws. If you look at the back of the headlight bucket, in all four corners is a recess, this recess aligns exactly with the circular extensions coming off the rear of the lens, so if you install a screw in this location, it threads into the circular extension, pulling the lens tight against the bucket. Makes a tighter seal then using the clips by themselves. I know some countries (like the US) had laws in place that required the lens of the headlight not be removable and not be made of glass. Wouldn't explain why this attachment method was designed into the headlight and not implemented though, unless it was for another country with similar laws.
You can see several of these locations circled in the attached picture.
Thanks for the tip, Rik... I was not aware there may be an option to use 4 screws in the corners to attach the lens.
Anyone happen to know the size of screw required, and/or an MB part number for the screws?
FWIW: on USA-spec models, there is often a single screw in the top corner. Dunno if Euro models had this or not. I never looked at the other 3 corners though.

I used 1" self tapping philips head sheet metal screws that I had. Have no idea what Mercedes used or if they ever used any. Might be worth it to check the EPC and see if any are listed for this purpose.
