This is courtesy of our member "esodnehoh" in Germany. It comes from official MB data per the EPC.

The total seems to be 45 cars with both option codes originally in the data card. I would expect these to be confirmed by same codes in the VIN cards and stickers under the rear deck.

DataMB has been proven NOT to be as accurate as direct EPC VIN data. There are discrepancies with DataMB, although it is generally pretty good and accurate.

However, the closest thing to the Holy Grail / Bible on MB data is ONLY and ONLY and ONLY the EPC.

Cheers,
Gerry

I do not own a Mercedes. So i have no access to EPC. Right?

Otherwise, please show me a link to EPC. So i will register and log in.

"a credit card attached to a USA mailing address".

I have family in the US. My brother in St. Joseph, MI. His daughter in Dupont, WA. She is married to a USAF C-17 Globemaster III pilot by the way. I have seen videos and images. Very impressive.
So EPC access will be no problem if i ask them, i suppose. But i won't bother my family. The three VIN decoders i am using now are sufficient for me.

And if i lose my way i will ask you people.:D

You can also get full EPC access as a European. It costs I think perhaps a bit less than the USD 75. I have friends living in Europe who have EPC subscriptions. Anyone in Europe can get it as well.

I crosschecked that the same is written also in EPC.
So for me the the first sentence is indication that SA-codes can be inserted after the car has left the factory. The latter one is showing that evenif Germans are precise there were 'bugs' identification system of MB that can sometimes fail by producing duplicate serial numbers.

Since i only found one VIN - WDB1240361C197810 - that had this "vom Kunden B+B Automobile nachgerüstet'" notification, i must conclude the other 44 VIN are original, so to say. Didn't have any notifications afterwards. Except for the double use of the engine number. But this doesn't affect the 957 and 958, i suppose?

Remains why 29 VIN are noted as E 500. And 16 VIN are noted E 60 AMG. At least, noted in datamb.com.
Is this also in EPC?

Yes, there are a few glitches with the documented engine serial numbers. The system base (VeDoc) where all other systems like EPC/WIS etc withdraw the data from automatically recognizes this. A check info is given for this vehicle to verify the actual engine number of the vehicle if possible. It refers you also to which is the other vin with the same engine serial number recorded. So this can be corrected by the official agent. It has not an influence of code 957.
What was retrofitted by customer B&B?

Yeah somebody put some money in that car. But only on the codes mentioned. Not E60/Limited code. I will verify that later but it's still a original E60 Limited.

If I am not mistaken, corrections cannot be done any more in W124 cars in the MB EPC and (VeDoc).
I contacted MB official dealer a while back and they requested to the documentation dept of MB to correct a typing error in the 'Sales designation ' in one of mine W124 500E's and it was not possible to make corrections in the W124 docs basically that was the answer.

My 5 cent... Someone just added couple of SA codes to R129. BUT- those adds will be done as just posted above- some comments on EPC, Datacard can´t be changed.

Eno, sorry to say but then they told you rubbish. It can be done IF you have the authority to do so. Not many have it. So it can be done in the our cars. Some things certainly can't be done like changing the chassis number, production date, sales point etc. But of course any changes like retrofitting the auxiliary heater for example in the previously mentioned vehicle must be performed with original parts only and by a authorized dealer. Then they add the code and EPC will show then after the quarterly update that the auxiliary heater items for example will be shown with part numbers plus you will see it in the data card as an option (like any other).
Further the so called FO text can be used to add information related to certain items, for example my car. Here is noted and linked to construction group 42, that the brakes are modified by using xyz part numbers and quantity. So while opening group 42 the this Pop up info will come up, however the part number as per the picture is not changed. But the workshop staff can then avoid mishandling

Ah ok, I see. Thnx.
I am not familiar with EPC but the official MB dealer sent an email request to change a "typo" on the sales designation on my 500E and MB replied back cause I saw the email myself, he turned the screen of his computer and I read the email myself.
They confirmed it was a typing mistake of the Sales Designation but could not do nothing.
If I remember correctly it was the responsible dept for documentation that had replied.
Anyways, I know nothing of EPC, never used it, just looked at the screen when ordering parts sometimes.

Yes as said some very essential stuff can not be changed. On the afore said vin 197810, the special equipment has been retrofitted in September 2009. Equipment retrofitted 884,882,819,816,810,581,260,228.

The table above shows all of the 500Es produced that show codes 957 and 958 on the data cards.

All of the cars above, then, would be E500 Limited models, with the addition of AMG 6-liter engine at some point DURING or AFTER production.

Checking each car via the EPC, and via the DataMB site, I have added the notation for each car as it appears in the records. Note that some cars do appear as E60 AMG models, and some appear as E500 models. However, per the data card, ALL of the cars above have six-liter engines.

One other thing to note .... this table above further disproves the "conventional wisdom" about the "12 E60 Limited" models produced, as you can see there were a total of 17 cars that have "E60 AMG" in the data cards, not counting the others which have both codes.

So, even if someone had somehow done a search for "E60 AMG" in the data cards, they would have come up with 17 cars, not 12 cars.

We can put that mythical number to bed, permanently, IMHO.

Cheers,
Gerry

I added columns to the above table to identify the interior and exterior colors (as shipped from the factory), as well as a link to the EPC data card as displayed by DataMB.com

In my analysis:
  • 41 out of 45 cars had the gray/black leather interior
  • 3 out of 45 cars had the green/black leather interior
  • 1 out of 45 cars had the red/black leather interior
  • 9 out of 45 cars had a Brilliant Silver exterior
  • 36 out of 45 cars had a Sapphire Black exterior

Cheers,
Gerry

This vin WDB1240361C056242 have 957 option and doesn't have 958 option.
Where did that VIN number come from? I do not see it mentioned earlier in this thread, nor on the list of VINs with the 957+958 numbers?

This thread specifically deals with only cars with 957+958.

Digging up an old thread, have a query.

A friend of mine owns one of the 45 E60s Limited cars listed above.

The engine number on the VIN does not match the engine number for the engine installed on the car. Could we assume AMG used a different engine for the 6.0Ls or should the engine number listed in the VIN be the correct 6.0L unit? I've asked him to check for the AMG stamp at the back of the engine and will report back.

Eager to hear from other E60 Limited owners to see whether the engine number on the VIN matches the one installed in the car, but appreciate there are not many owners of the E60 Limited on here.

I think the same question would be valid for owners of any code-957 E60's, whether or not they are Limiteds.

IMO, the engine number should match the datacard, if it's a factory build. Even if AMG did a conversion from 5.0L had to replace the block (because late-build cars had open-deck blocks), they would have used a new closed-deck block, and stamped the correct engine serial to match the VIN and original engine.

Yup indeed. My intuition also tells me AMG would retain that engine number on factory delivered cars, but odd stuff happened back in the day particularly when AMG was a tuning house.

Agreed, it should match. Mine matched and it was built/converted as new (even though not 957 code - but original owner ordered it as E60 new other 'unique' things he wanted as part of the build). When I looked to buy/import E60 to US, one of the things I looked for was "original engine number" on the car. Mine is not a Limited (I looked at some 958's and sometimes I really like the interior and other times I decided I wanted regular interior - I eventually went with regular interior), but in any case I wanted to make sure it was the original engine.

The engine number must match! However there are very few hiccups where engine numbers are double posted and requested to be corrected in the internal system once you have such a car. But this is not limited or exclusively on amg variants but also on normal production line mb's. As stated correctly, once a open deck block was replaced by an closed deck version it was re-stamped with the original number.

I can confirm that the Engine number on a factory E60 AMG MUST match the VIN.

If there was a rare case of an engine replacement under warranty or such, it would also be documented in an updated datacard and invoices.

Am I correct in assuming its a Japan import so no documentation is present?

It is a misprint at top of the table in post #23 (and following error in post #25), the Limited interior colour codes red and green is switched. Per the EPC it shall be:
  • 286 = Black leather w/red green insert
  • 287 = Black leather w/green red insert
  • 288 = Black leather w/gray insert
Limited leather interior codes.jpg

The reason for finding the error is that the only E60 Limited being in Norway WDB1240361C204818 owned by member @Mosselmann, exported back to Germany in 2013 and later on bought by member @Dortmunder, has the 287 red Limited interior:

#27 (WDB1240361C183327) popped up on the 'Tube today:

Luckily some technician/branch did check on the engine number lately..

BERICHTIGEN!!!
[th]Record 5 Text[/th]

"Eingetragene Motornummer wurde von R.Kurzen überprüft und ist für dieses Fahrzeug richtig", meaning this engine no. (my guess 009746) is actually built onto VIN 183327..

"The registered engine number was verified by R. Kurzen and is correct for this vehicle.
THE ENGINE NUMBER OF THIS VEHICLE IS ALSO REGISTERED FOR THE FOLLOWING VEHICLES:
WDB1240361C183327. PLEASE CHECK THE ENGINE NUMBER ON THE VEHICLE AND CORRECT IF NECESSARY!"

They should have just deleted the double entry note...also, 99.95% it's a typing error and means actually "vor kurzem" (recently). So the number in the data card matches the vin.
Actually you are both, first right.. and (only maybe..) slightly wrong too :)

- translation of 'vor Kurzem' is 'recently'
- it is (although unlikely!) possible, that an employee at an MB-workshop/facility has 'KurzeN' as surname (and 'R.' being initial for their first-name)

I'm not saying it can't be a typo though.. and about deleting double entry, it would still make somehow sense to check whether WDB1240361C183327 has the engine no. which its data-card indicates too, IMHO

Strangely enough, it's not uncommon to find the same engine numbers on datacards of different vehicles (different VIN's). This is also the case with:

WDB1240361C161822 and WDB1240361C162390 (both showing same engine #'s on datacard ending at 009674), as well as:
WDB1240361C195735 and WDB1240361C202605 (both showing same engine #'s on datacard ending at 010288).
Same with WDB1240361C160617 and WDB1240361C135281 showing identical engine #'s - ending with 009297- on their datacards.

In all these instances, as well as in the above similarity between WDB1240361C165087 and WDB1240361C183327, it might have something to do with the fact that one of "the doubles" is listed as E60 AMG. In other words, something happened with the 6.0 liter drop-in.

In a different situation that is even more strange, the engine # ending at 010241 on datacards of these 2 vehicles seem to be also identical: WDB1240361C204258 and WDB2100551A000266. I have no explanation.
