The new part
number for the windshield is 124-670-33-01-64 and the new retail price is
$710.00!!!! They still haven't hit our shores yet. PGW will get a shipment from
Germany soon. Sea freight. Takes quite a while.
Not sure Gerry. Tom sent me a new windshield in late July or early August that was broken in transit. That was $320 shipped. I have been waiting on another one and inquired this week with Tom and that was his response.
Tx, where did you get the windshield? My diesel's windshield is entirely sandblasted and it's overdue for replacement. At that price I can't not do it.
I used a local guy in the Dallas area - He Supplied and fitted.
I insisted on Pilkington or PPG - I was in no hurry to replace, so it wasn't a problem to wait. I would say that is the BIG thing - insist on one of those brands - although as I mentioned upthread - PPG is now PGW though.
So, it appears we have another "OMG XXX part is NLA forever from MB !!!" situation on our hands whereby a part goes AWOL for a few weeks or months, and MB commissions another production run.
On the one hand I am happy to see this, but on the other hand it was never in any doubt (at least in MY mind) -- given the type of part that this windshield is and how frequently they require replacement -- that MB would produce additional units.
So I think we can halt our "hand-wringing" over the demise of the W124 windshield ... at least for now
Uh, no, I don't think anyone ever said this was a permanent NLA with codes in the systems indicating it was permanently dead. Unless I missed something? I thought it was just OOS for an extended period, which is not the same as NLA.
Although at the new price, it doesn't really matter. I suspect there are only a handful of people on the forum who would shell out ~$1k just to get an MB start on their new winshield. I'd never pay $700 for OE glass when aftermarket is available for ~$200. Just wait until reports come in that the $700 OE glass is made in China...
