Private label Mahle Knecht OX92 oil filters cheap!

For reference... OE is Knecht AF85. No idea if the OX92 is different.

Rock is selling out quickly despite the price nearly doubling to almost $3/ea as of this morning. 57 left as of 11am MST. They had 120+ last night.

I have fought some good deals with my V126 but yes most parts are crap quality. I usually only bite on OEM manufacturer’. I has gotten a lot worse lately but same can be said for the whole industry.

I think I have $25 invested. i will look into it but such a small amount I might just cut my loss. FWIW I paid $18 for one Mann filter from my local NAPA so I could change the oil over the weekend. I will order some from Autohaus AZ when I place my next order.

Yea, I thought pictures were supposed to represent the actual product. Clearly a bait and switch. I’m sorry for anyone who ordered them. I could not find a place of manufacture but they do look well made But a concern I have is the quality of the filter media and O ring seals.

Got mine today too. It looks like API. No COA anywhere unless they are hiding it under a label. The filter does look to be the same quality as the Mahle, but it's not worth the risk. Like previous posters, it probably isn't worth a return but I'll look into it. It was a bait-and-switch.

EDIT: FWIW, I submitted a refund request and checked the defective/warranty box. I attached a picture of the Mahle filter they advertise (thanks Trae) along with the junk filters they sent. They acknowledged and said I would be contacted. Should be interesting considering how many were ordered just from our members.

We’re sorry for the problem with your order. We discovered we had an error on our website, and the image for the part is incorrect. As this is our mistake, we will issue you a full refund for the part and associated shipping.

You can view and print your return instructions through our Order Status & Returns page. You will find a prepaid shipping label at the bottom of the return instructions. We will issue the refund back to your original payment method within 3 business days after tracking information shows our warehouse has received your return. We will email you when the refund is issued.
We cannot do exchanges, so if you still need the correct part, please reorder an alternate brand on RockAuto.com. For further information, please see our Help pages.

Thank you,

Casey

For my return, I used the Broken/Defective/Warranty page in the drop-down menu. The "wrong part" route wouldn't let me request a refund. I'm surprised they admitted their mistake.

Looks like they're made by Ford for non ford vehicles

Reply from Rock's crack customer service team:

"The part that you ordered was listed as "Private Label Package" on our website and on your Order Confirmation. "Private Label Pkg" means the part may be in a plain white box, a distributor's box, or (for closeout parts) a box from a competing store. Although the box may not say the manufacturer's name, the part inside the box has the same features, warranty and quality as the regular inventory version.
If you disagree with the manufacturer's purchasing decision, you may return the part for a refund of the part cost using the return instructions on our Order Status & Returns page. We will issue the refund back to your original payment method within 3 business days after tracking information shows our warehouse has received your return. We will email you when the refund is issued."

The cool thing here is they charged me $13.99 to ship the filters to me, then are charging me for to return shipping as well... but only ~$7.50 (their cost) to return. Soooo... they are charging me double actual to send to me in the first place? (Yeah, I know there is some cost for packaging and the box-filler personnel.)

I am now the proud owner of a nice $22 magnet with... wait for it... a BMW photo.

:update:

After repeating this was THEIR mistake, not mine, the canned reply was:

We're sorry but shipping is not refundable on this order because you purchased "Private Label Package" parts. You received what the manufacturer rebranded and sold as their own product.
Thank you,

I supposed the best solution is to file a claim with your credit card for the full amount and see if that goes any better. Rock refuses to take responsibility for their errors.
