Pilkington just made a production run in the EU, so it is now worth to check availability. When I called Polish warehouse, they told me there are two in stock (I bought one, so now there is only one left). I don't know if this is only in Poland or in the Germany.

Maybe it is also available at the dealer again.

And here it is. Sticker from pilkington says Mercedes 200 300, are they trying to insult me or something? :ROFLMAO: Price I paid is exacly $500.

$500 is a great deal! Did you purchase from the Mercedes dealership? That glass is much more expensive in USA.

:apl:

Hi,

I have read much of the above thread. Can I just check that in effect, any W124 rear screen will fit the E500/500E if .036 stuff cannot be sourced and that the heating elements will 'plug & play' despite differenced in the cars electrical system compared to the smaller engined vehicles?

I ask as my cars rear widow is badly delaminated in teh usual places, its currently away for a respray & I would like to rectify the window at the same time.

Cheers

The two different rear glass types are interchangeable. It's mostly a visual difference, the standard/cheaper glass just doesn't look as good.

In the meantime, see if you can obtain the correct glass from local suppliers.

Dave, I'll take exception to that comment! Standard glass looks just fine! I've had both on my E320. Currently have an aftermarket standard rear glass with the wider heating elements. But as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Rettopian-- just note the 036 specific glass is laminated, hence the propensity for delamination down the road while the standard glass is tempered (will shatter into a zillion pieces when broken).

Regards,

Peter

Thanks Peter, Interesting.

Arguably, here in the UK, the tempered glass may be a better option! No delamination - no fogging as moisture creeps in. We have a lot of moisture....

TBH, I'd be glad to find any green tinted rear screen for the car at the moment.

I phoned my dealer today; according to his system none in US warehouses and none in Germany either. He said NLA - not coming back.

I spoke with a local independent glass shop which is also a Pilkington retailer. Supposedly the laminated glass is Pilkington part number 3211 and it is available, there were four in my regional warehouse. Price was $325 retail.

The PN 5328BGNSK did not pull up - the shop said this might be Pilkington's internal PN for the MB glass. He could not pull it up however.

I did order directly from Pilkington here in the UK. Normally a 15-16 week lead time but fortunately these were both in stock.

MODERATOR UPDATE, NOVEMBER 2025:

MB Classic still shows available., despite most online RevPart dealer websites showing "Discontinued".

You'll need to call and talk to a live person at a dealership to confirm availability. Current MSRP is $1040 USD.
