Hello.

I am rebuilding a m119.974 engine and don't know where a couple of brackets need to be placed. I bought the engine already striped and received a lot of pictures but can't see the place of some of the parts. Maybe someone will recognize a bracket.

OK Reading your middle row first going LEFT to RIGHT:

1: Haven’t seen that exact one before but I believe it might go on the inlet manifold bolts and is to clip cables to – crank sensor and vacuum lines to transmission. (The intake bolts at the very rear of the engine) Will need to think about this one further

2: Don’t recognise this one

3: That 2 hole flat one goes on the A/C bracket. On the rear edge of the bracket there will be a m8 stud with nut. This has a plastic clip to hold the knock sensor cables. (Positive this is correct)

4: I recognise this one just can't place where it goes but let me think about it.

5: The top bracket is a piece of the black plastic spark plug cable ducting. It will clip back on. (Positive this is correct)

6: See post #17 below for location and photos (below FPR vacuum hose)

I have lots of photos on my phone so I will see if I can post some useful ones below. If you look carefully you will see these brackets.

As a footnote – the next M119 I restore I intend to photograph and document all of the original brackets and bolts in their locations. The bolt brands vary on the motor even though the bolts are the same sizes in some instances. (Yes I am anal retentive about such things. But these are the differences that make for an epic resto – knowing with 100% certainty that the original fasteners are exactly where they belong)

2x brackets on left bank inlet manifold

For reference only - brackets on this motor look slightly different but I have seen 2x styles used.

Jc 220 thank you so so much. I will place the engine in later this week. Got the car 3 years ago can't wait how it drives. And yes I haven't driven it yet. Thank for your help.

3: That 2 hole flat one goes on the power steering pump bracket. On the outer left edge of the bracket there will be a m6 tapped hole. This has a cap bolt and a plastic clip to hold the knock sensor cables.

4: I think this goes on the rear inlet manifold bolts. (There are 2x needed both on left bank rear bolts) check if those are installed already if not then this might be it.

5: The top bracket is a piece of the black plastic spark plug cable ducting. It will clip back on.

6: The lower bracket is for the ETA cable. It goes on the inlet manifold RHS where the cable routes up and towards bulkhead.

No problem! I will root through photos I have and place them more accurately. My top post will be updated when I notice amendments to my suggestions

Ah I see! My car was missing that bracket then - someone was there before me on the green coupe that is for sure.
Just found the old picture. But where does the bracket need to be placed? The bottom one from my first picture?

Sorry I am not sure at the moment I will need to check this out. Maybe pop the hood on my 500E which was never apart before.

Hello.
I found the z shaped bracket. It's for a cable clip. In the picture under the little yellow string.

Those are 2 different M119 engines. The small/flat bracket is not located near the power steering pump on engines with distributor caps.

Yes I agree this is my understanding too. I dont have a good photo of it to hand but on distributer cap m119s this flat bracket goes on the AC pump bracket on the left side of the block and supports the knock sensor wiring harness

Also installed the 'z' chapped bracket on the rail.
Then I noticed that I don't have 2 identical brackets for the rear. Took some pictures.
And mounted the AC lines, oil lines and electrical wires

Hello, I do have a couple of questions.
Does anyone know where this airline goes? The one that goes down to the firewall.
One the back of the gearbox is a black 'block' as seen on the picture. What is the name for this part and does my gearbox need this part because it's a. 119.974 block? Picture is from another gearbox not mine.

The other end of that 8mm tube goes to the purge valve, located near the EZL on the driver side fender.

That is the kickdown solenoid assembly, and yes it is required for all 722.3 transmissions. If the wire is not plugged in, full throttle upshifts may be below redline, and the "B" position on the shift lever will not work.

:tumble:

Does anyone have a picture of this bracket in the right place. Maybe I am looking wrong can't find its place. :buggin:

And I also found a broken metal spring in the gearbox oil pan. Still looking where it came from....

It should attach to the intake manifold area, near the rear on the passenger side, IIRC. Visible in photo at link below, from this thread.

Appears to be from one of the 20 springs for the reverse piston. They aren't supposed to pop out.
