Serpentine Belt OEM or aftermarket?

I discovered some cracks in my belt over the weekend. Whats the consensus here OEM or aftermarket replacement?

Continental (CRP) makes them on the aftermarket for significantly cheaper than the OE belts. I have not been hearing (nor have I experienced with my 560SEC) good things recently with regard to Conti belts, so I'd probably go with the OE one, which will be around $60-70 through parts.com.

It's important to check the belt tensioner at the same time you change the belt. Tensioners are a common "wear" item,

There are two kinds of belts (different rib counts, early and later motors) so be sure you get the right one for your year of car/engine number.

Cheers,
Gerry

I do not see any marking on the belt. Are the lengths the same?
No. The 8-rib belt used on 1992 cars with manaul belt tensioner is wider and a different length than the 6-rib belt used on 1993-up cars with automatic belt tensioner. Different part numbers too.

6-rib belt should be 2535mm long (99.8 inches)

8-rib belt should be 2465mm long (97.0 inches)

It would really help if you'd update your profile to indicate the year/model of your car...

Yep, but you never know if someone's done a facelift, etc.

If it is a 1994 then it should not use a 97-inch belt.
