Drew, p/n 124-240-06-18 is the standard mount for pretty much all 124 and 201 chassis (except V8 models)... and, this is also used on the 6/8-cyl R129! Screenshot below from EPC.I searched the number on a trans mount I acquired with a R129 car. That no. is 124 240 0618.
Dave. Can you tell me what it is I have? The search led me to what I believe was a MB site, not Ebay or equivalent sellers.
Good call, sorry about that, I see no way to amend my subject.I recommend noting what the part is in the title of the post, not just the part number. It helps forum members determine what the thread is about, as most folks do not know individual part numbers.
In this case, the thread is about the NLA status of the transmission mount for the E500E, from MB.

I would recommend scouring Google and eBay to find NOS parts. Certainly there are going to be some out there.
Yup! Sometimes the part number prefix does not match the chassis which use the part. This isn't common, but I've seen it happen more than once...Classic, so a 140 P/N Mount is specifically not used on a 140 chassis….

This situation is actually much more common than many people think.Yup! Sometimes the part number prefix does not match the chassis which use the part. This isn't common, but I've seen it happen more than once...
It should be able to go 100,000km (60,000+ miles). I think you need a second opinion about it being bad. UNLESS the current replacement from 5 years ago was a cheap Chinese aftermarket part. If it was an MB part, then it should be good for 80,000-100,000 kms, or even more. Can someone tell, what is the resource of this mount? I have changed it 5 years ago, or 20k kilometres. And today my mechanic told me that it needs to be changed. Seems very little, in my opinion, considering that it was a new original part.

Don't think another opinion needed...This is highly qualified mechanic. He showed me that this mount squeezes down with fingers. It should be able to go 100,000km (60,000+ miles). 140 240 08 18 doesn't fit E500/E420. We tried it todayI confirm, the A1402400318 is NLA in Germany. Would the A1402400818 (also NLA) fit into the E500? It's used in the W140 S420/S500. I used the Vaico aftermarked variant and it's working fine.
Because of the notch at the back, which is turned differently?140 240 08 18 doesn't fit E500/E420. We tried it today
If it was only because of notch, it wouldn't be a problem. Its bigger than 034/036 mount and has different/another form mounting places on the sidesBecause of the notch at the back, which is turned differently?
I can contact some vendors in the EU. Maybe they have some in stock. But that has to wait till monday at least. If it was only because of notch, it wouldn't be a problem. Its bigger than 034/036 mount and has different/another form mounting places on the sides
Your highly qualified mechanic may not be highly knowledgeable with this specific mount or application. Gerry is correct, there's no way an OE/Genuine mount has failed in 20kkm. Unless the rubber oil soaked, it's fine. Leave it alone. These mounts can last decades / hundreds of thousands of km's.Can someone tell, what is the resource of this mount? It's rubber. It's meant to move. Squeezing with your fingers is SUPPOSED to move it! If the mount were solid, it would transmit NVH to the passenger compartment.Don't think another opinion needed...This is highly qualified mechanic. He showed me that this mount squeezes down with fingers.
You can get a new one in Doc's Delorean Time Machine if you go back to 2017.I bought a transmission mount for my 1993 400E and the one every store is showing is not correct as it has 3 holes on base plate in a triangle configuration instead of two on center line fore to aft. Old mount is orginal one with the 140 2400318 part number. The one I bought is a Pioneer and looks fairy robust and made in Taiwan. Please advise where I can get a new mount or maybe fill the old one with expoxy/rubber.
Thanks,
Bruce F.
Bruce, is this what you received? I'm seeing this obviously-incorrect mount shown with p/n 140-240-03-18. It will take a while for customers to complain and eventually get the various vendors to fix their websites.I bought a transmission mount for my 1993 400E and the one every store is showing is not correct as it has 3 holes on base plate in a triangle configuration instead of two on center line fore to aft. Probably wouldn't hurt. Even brand new mounts will "sag" noticeably immediately after installation, with the weight of the transmission resting on it.Do I need to wedge something under it to center bolt hole before filling with Devcon?
Yeah I hear you, but essentially "$100 + more" is not valid ---- because the original MB mount price is basically infinite since it is NLA.Only problem with the Devcon is cost $100 plus more than a new MB mount if it wasn't NLA.
Can anybody advise about how to refill such a mount? I am missing any idea … thanks!
Ohhh. Thanks for alerting us to this!FYI, Kurth Classics from Germany now offers a repro Transmission mount for our beloved 034/036 cars. The first batch sold out quick, but the next one should be available soon.
