I have not seen these before. This is fascinating. It appears a Japanese enthusiast has manufactured at least 300 sets of enclosures (real enclosures) to house 1-way Fostex or ScanSpeak speakers in the dashboard. His claim is that the enclosure makes for some terrific results, especially in the upper midbass. I believe it ----- the factory OE speakers in the dash have no enclosure of any sort.

Putting this here for posterity:

I've listened to these before, and my impression was... they're okay. The Fostex driver they're using isn't an expensive unit (retails for 7500 JPY each) so you're really paying for the pretty carbon fiber baffle or the fiberglassed enclosure. I'm not sure if there's a dramatic benefit to using an enclosure as opposed to a properly mounted driver that's designed for infinite baffle in the first place (as is the case with our dashboard).

German Maestro (Ex MB Quart). Best sound for money. But i doubt it is for sale in US....

Thanks for your observations! They do make "series 3" which uses a Scanspeak driver though......
IMHO, the most pressing need for an aftermarket carbon fiber / fiberglass enclosure is for installig 6.5" drivers in the *doors*. It is nearly impossible to make the door units an infinite-baffle type design.

If the dash speakers are utilized properly, a enclosure is not necessary. Sealed enclosures, vented enclosures, infinite baffle designs are all paramount to reproducing low frequencies. A 4" driver is not going to properly reproduce these lower frequencies.

If these enclosures are inexpensive, then sure, go for it, but if they are expensive, its flushing money on a upgrade that really isn't necessary.
