w124 E500E Non Standard wheel picture thread.Post your pics

Sorry, my hat rack looks like LBJ/LeMay Domino Theory logic. Whether I'm wearing it or driving it, I enjoy the conversation piece as much as the next enthusiast.

Oh how I envy you 500 guys on wheel clearance!!
Not a 500 a 420 but personally like my look so--.
17 X 8 anzio vision's with P7's.

19" cls wheels I was running before filled up the arches nicely but with these 18"s, the rears are looking a tad bit too high.
I prefer the look of the cls 19" wheels but these ride a bit smoother over the crappy streets of NY and MI, despite the all weather tires.

As mentioned in other posts these are R129 wheels if spacers are not used. Fronts are 8.5x18 et25 and rears are 9.5x18 et23. I know because I have them myself.
I'm running 10mm hub centric spacers in front to fill the wheel wells better.

Which 10mm hubcentric spacers are you running? The reason I ask is because I am in need of 10mm front spacers for mine and when I tried to order the H&R spacers I was told in order to clear the end caps hubcentric front spacers have to be 15mm minimum because of the way they are made and I will not be able to have a 10mm spacer (hubcentric) because of the caps.

well.. a little update:)
"Non" standard ...but still standard of course. Not a usual site(I bought them to go on my 190e 2.5-16 EvoLtwin " though"But they came with the proper size tires for the 036..so i had to try them on ...not to sure what i think about them on my car at least..on a silver car they would look better in my opinion :)

Interesting. I wonder how thin the area between the cap and the spacer hub is on those. H&R told me that that area would be too thin unless the spacer has a 15mm thickness bringing it further out past the cap. Anyway, I have the 15mm spacers from H&R on the way along with 55mm extended lug bolts. I also did find a set of 10mm spacers on Amazon made by Bimecc last week. It said they fit both front and rear so I took a risk and bought them. They actually fit because they are made of a hard alloy with thin wall hub area which clears the cap on these cars. They work well but in my application I think 15mm will look better so I went ahead and got the 15mm H&R's. These spacers along with 50mm extended ball-seat lug bolts will be for sale soon if anyone needs front 10mm hubcentric spacers for their 500E.

This will be interesting. I have 18x8.5 all around, running 245x40. I've been thinking of going to 255x40 next time. I have a ET25 wheel. Staggered fitments are out of my knowledge base, but if other MB products are any indicator, I would think 275x35 on the 9.5 wheel, maybe even 285. I think my rear 19" S55 wheels are 9.5", and they came stock wearing 275x35. I went to 285x35, small change, more cushion for the pushin', and have been pleased not to really notice. It's not quite as harsh is all, which is welcome. There's a "GSXR" in the S55 forum on MBWorld who had worked through that one, so I followed his lead, as the question was on my mind anyway.

So 245 front, 275 rear should be safe depending upon your offset. But you can probably go 255 front, 285 rear. I think this is squarely a GSXR question.

Cheers,

maw

maw and Glen are both correct. 245 / 275 would be ideal. If you really want wider, 255 / 285 would be the largest I would use with 8.5 / 9.5 wheel widths.

This assumes wheel offsets between about low 20's and mid 30's; outside that range you may run into clearance issues outside or inside, respectively.

:seesaw:

That's what I run on my staggered AMG Mono IIs ... 245/40s in the front, and 275/35s in the rear, IIRC. I'll have to look to confirm when I get back home on Friday night.

so....18x9.5 inch wheels front and back? opinions please..and maybe some tire size suggestions...same size tires front and back..or different size tires on 9.5inch wide fronts and rears..:)

245 275 it is then :)Thank you all :)
I found that in my particular wheel and tire combination (18x8.5/18x10 SL600 2pc. BBS splits wrapped with Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2) the 245 front was too squared compared to the 275 rear. A friend of mine has the same wheels with the same brand tires with a 245/275 setup and I decided to go with 235/275 widths instead because it looks much better IMO. Maybe with a 9.5 wide rear rim the 245 front would look ok if you want a wider more squared look.

a picture of my E500 with 18 x 8.5 HRE Wheels as I bought the car couple of years ago and a current picture with installed EVO II on Michelin PSS.
Hint: HRE with Michelin PSS will go for sale soon. Watch for new post with more details and pictures.

Good to see you and that car again. The previous owner will be happy to know that it has a good home. I still talk to her now and then.

Where did you get your gold bolts do you know if these are the same size as the sl600 2 piece bbs wheels that I have. The sizes are L - 30.56 with head W - 6.80

Thanks Speedy, maw, & Benz! I like to keep things stock, especially wheels & tires. Yes, I could do the EVOIIs, as that was done by MB. However, I like the 16s & always liked the look of Monoblocks, but really want true AMG units.

I stand corrected. That site shows a 16” monoblock for the W124 chassis that’s NLA. I’m not sure if they were E5E correct in terms of fitment though.

Did AMG or anyone else make 16x8 monoblocks with the correct offset for the 500E?

They made these for the W201 16x7.5 et37 Not sure if they will clear the calipers (aluminum, SL500, or SL600) without spacers.

These were refinished by Dave at Renewed Finishes. If you are interested I suppose they are available for the right price.

MB obviously thought that 16” wheels were just fine for the E500E, as they did 14” wheels for the 300SEL 6.3 and 450SEL 6.9 before it.

Others think differently and you cant please everyone . 90% of owners now prefer bigger wheels...

anyone running 18x9.5 front and rear?if so...would still 275 35 18 be the "correct" size?

Stephan,

I have thought if I had or get a set of 18”x9-1/2 AMG Monoblocks I would want the latest Michelin Super Sports in size 265s on all 4 corners. I have run 255s on the front w/ no problems. Rears were 285s at the time. I would consider the 255s again also.

I am running 18x9 ET35 front and rear (with 15mm spacers to avoid fouling the suspension). I tried 275 35's on the front, but they rubbed on the left fender on undulating right-hand bends. I imagine you might have the same problem running this size on 9.5" rims? It may depend on the ET of your wheels? I had to downgrade to 245 40's. The rear on 275 35 are fine. This still works fine, as the rolling circumference of the two different tyre sizes are almost identical, so don't give the car the hiccups!

If you aren't dead set on 19's... I'd consider sticking with 18's. The ride quality starts to deteriorate at 18+ and 19's are pretty much the outer limit of what looks proportional inside the 036 fenders.

I think size/offset is covered earlier in this thread, but typical is 8.5 front, 9.5 rear, with offsets in the mid 20's to low 30's to avoid spacers. Watch out for OE wheels with M14 lug holes which will need custom lug bolts.

I’m on a second set of HRE wheels.
First set was six spokes, deep dish 3-piece forged wheels, model 546 - F: 17 x 8.5 (offset et27), R: 17x10 (offset et34).
Second set is multi spoke 1-piece forged monoblok wheels, model RC103 - F: 17x8.5 (offset et27), R: 17x9.5 (offset et28). Tires are Continental ExtremeContact Sport, in 245/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rear sizes. The RC103 do not come in 17x10 size, unless the wheels are 18x10. Went for a flat wheel look this time. Both sets were in a brushed finish and clear-coated.
