Cleaning MB Car Cover

This feels like the best area to put this...

How is this done? My cover is filthy. The car is stored underground but with one side open to the environment in Atlanta's CBD. I could only find what is attached at www.calcarcover.com but wonder if anyone here has any experience.

I took mine to a laundry mat so I could get access to a larger washer with no agitator. Washed using Tide, then washed again with no cleaner. No dryer, air dry only. Had no issues. FWIW, I have the factory Mercedes W124 cover.

I have washed a cover in this fashion. I believe this is the recommended procedure.

Just wanted to share the procedures by MB on how to clean their car covers. I forgot where I downloaded this info, but have been using it on my OE car cover.

PROCEDURES IN CLEANING MB R129 CAR COVER
A. Search locally for large automatic commercial washers, without agitators !!!!!
B. 2 cups of Woolite/Perwoll Blue liquid laundry detergent are needed to clean/wash.
C. Use “normal or permanent press” setting in cold or warm water (NOT HOT WATER) !!!!!
D. Use 2 rinse cycles !!!!!
E. “Air to dry” only !!!!!

I've attached factory Ultralon car cover Instructions for use and care along with a photo of the tag on the cover regarding cleaning. Sorry about rotation.

Large commercial automatic washer without agitator
2 cups liquid Fantastik All Purpose Cleaner only (not soap or detergent)
Permanent Press cycle in cold or warm water
2 rinse cycles
Air dry

For those with an OEM cover (it is a Covercraft Noah), the instructions above are the same except they recommend Simple Green.

Trivia: The MBNA dealer car covers were Ultra (Ultralon?) in the early/mid 1990's. Somewhere in the late 1990's, they changed to Noah; and I believe the Noah covers are still being sold today. The two are VERY different materials.

Just a warning to the uninitiated - I destroyed a 2 month old W140 factory Noah cover by putting it in the dryer on "Delicate". Just that limited amount of heat was enough to fuse about 1/4 of the cover and cause it to shrink up. Grr.

If there was a bright side to this, I now have a factory Noah car cover that fits my 400E. It's a little big in places, but does the job....

I learned the hard way that Noah covers are not ideal for outdoor wet climates. Over time, the Noah cover will shrink - significantly. It's fine for dry outdoor use, and of course indoor use, but I wouldn't put a Noah cover on a car parked outside in Seattle. YMMV, etc...
