FYI - Parts orders from MB Naperville - Free shipping with code 500EPROMO

Even under beSt circumstance, an order placed on a friday after 12 cdt has little chance of shipping out by monday unless it is in stock. Best chance in usa ship tuesday or germany ship in 7 bIz days.

Yesterday (Friday) I received one item from my order, which arrived via FedEx and was drop-shipped directly from the MB warehouse in Robbinsville, NJ. I have not yet received the other items of the order, though mboemparts.com has marked the order now as "Ready to Ship". I expect that I'll receive it this coming week sometime.

I placed an order through MB Annapolis (www.getmercedesparts.com), which uses the same Revolution Parts platform as MB Naperville, and actually offers a 1-3% lower price than MB Naperville. I have a special arrangement with the Internet parts manager at MB Annapolis not to charge me shipping (because I'm local), although they do charge me the 6% Maryland sales tax, which MB Naperville does not.

But MB Annapolis' parts department is operating, and I confirmed this earlier last week by phone. I was told that MB parts was on a Friday Easter Holiday, but that I should have most all of my parts by Tuesday, or Wednesday next week at the latest. A couple of small clips are coming from Germany.
The rest of my parts order just arrived now from MB Naperville. Ordered on 4/3, arrived on 4/13. I can't complain, given the current conditions and short staffing.

My BIL's order placed 4 weeks ago still hadn't shipped. He called again today and got the usual story, but gently pushed a little harder, and just received an email that the order may have finally shipped. We'll see if it does, but sheesh, 4 weeks is crazy even with COVID factored in.

I’m just off the phone with them placing an order. They used to have 4 people working parts, now just one due to CV19. That gentleman (“Bob” IIRC) says he’s 5-10 days behind processing orders. I suppose I could have paid for expedited shipping and foregone the promo, but talking to him it didn’t seem like that would get my stuff in a box any quicker, it would only affect the manner of shipping afterward. Plus I have enough to hurry about, so this ain’t that. More first world problems — hobby parts take longer.

maw
Ten days after ordering (including two weekends) my parts have arrived, exceeding my expectations. I suspect it’s a function of from where the parts are originated. If they’re coming from a warehouse in your state or country, maybe you get them quicker. 🤷🏾‍♂️ Mine went to FL.

🍻

I believe the box I got today was also drop-shipped directly from MB parts warehouse — not MB Naperville.

:update:
Box came from the MB warehouse in Carol Stream, IL.

@nocfn -- Can you find out what is going on with the shipping code? Did they change it to 50% off without telling us? Because if that is the case, I'm not going to order from them anymore.

The last/recent order I did, was 100% off shipping. That was on April 3.

Shipping costs on this site are ridiculous. Im paying 20 dollars shipping on a 30 dollar order sort of thing lol
It's not just Naperville's site. It's all dealers using the RevolutionParts platform, which is basically every single dealer in USA that sells parts online at a discount. They all have insane shipping costs. And each dealer has their own pricing matrix as well. Naperville's claim to fame was the free ship option with promo code. Sure hope it hasn't gone away.

Hard to say -- here's a sample checkout. Note there is initial shipping quoted of $20, then no shipping, but they say 50%.

If they are going to start charging shipping, then I'll just go full-bore with MB Annapolis (www.getmercedesparts.com), which won't charge me shipping by arrangement (I'm local) but will charge me 6% MD sales tax. BUT, their percentage discount is 1-2% less than MB Naperville's, so it comes out to somewhat less than 6% net.

heres my order. 19 dollar shipping on a 38 dollar order is silly to me. Its light weight small parts too.

  1. Cylinder & Keys Seal
    $2.15
    Part # 208-758-00-98
  2. Gear Assembly Cap
    $12.95
    Part # 202-824-02-49
  3. Wiper Arm Cap
    $8.88
    Part # 124-824-03-49
  4. Windshield Wiper Blade Refill
    $14.80
    Part # 124-820-11-45
Subtotal
$38.78
Shipping
$18.80
Discount - 50% off shipping
-$9.40
Total
$48.18

Just tried it, its 50% off shipping.

Theres no other code? Shipping costs on this site are ridiculous. Im paying 20 dollars shipping on a 30 dollar order sort of thing lol
Sorry @PJmak, I had no problems as of April 3, same as Gerry.

By the same token, I can see the increased online volume + CV19 leading someone to start counting the money going out the door in shipping discounts.

Unless this is a temporary thing, they've lost my business. I'd rather go local and have someone's throat to choke, if needed. When I go in and pick up my parts this week, I'll talk to Eddie (the Internet order manager) to see if they will create a code for our site for free shipping.

BTW -- is anyone having problems typing part numbers into Revolution Parts sites, or is it just my computer that is having issues? Everything I type in (valid part numbers) is coming up with PART NOT FOUND errors.

Yeah, it's happening again... see this every few months or so, where many valid part numbers have not found / no results. Should be fixed soon, but for the moment it's a PITA. The issue is with their search engine, not the back-end database. This is affecting ALL the RevParts dealers, not just Naperville.

As a workaround, change the part number at the end of the sample URL below (red text). Don't change anything else, ignore that it says "radiator". This will let you get directly to specific part numbers:

COPY + PASTE, DO NOT CLICK BELOW, CLICKING WILL NOT WORK!!

Guys and Gals - I just spoke to Bob at Naperville. He is the only employee processing orders, and they are unable to obtain additional staff and that is BEYOND HIS CONTROL.

The PROMO CODE for this forum has been modified, and after a discussion we agreed to the following: 50% shipping cost will be paid for by MB of Naperville, you will pay for your half. If you finds a better deal elsewhere, do so. Establish a relationship and work for the greater good of the community, constructively. Bob recognizes the value of the forum's relationship and he wants to continue to support us, as a valuable part of his business. However times and economics have changed and he needs a bit of consideration and I think that it is fair. You will vote with your feet obviously or your orders as the case may be. The reality is what it is, and he sends his regrets for the situation. He has firmly expressed that one should really try to order once per week, month etc and have your ducks in a row. Ordering multiple parts for $7 over 6 order numbers is not going to make the relationship even close to binary where both parties win. So as it has always been, plan ahead and try to get all your parts in an order that exceeds $50-$100, that helps out alot when the store has very little revenue and no ability to do service or sell cars that they pay for.

So like it or not Bob has agreed to change the terms of his deal: ALL ORDERS will get 50% off the shipping for that order using the promo code. This is a temporary measure and could revert back to what it was when things rebound. Know this: he values our hobby and needs to share the shipping cost. He is one person, and is doing the best he can. If he sees one person making orders for 3 crush washers or some other $7 part using forum code then he should get in touch with the buyer if he has time or just not fill it.

We need to do our part here people, it isnt perfect but it is an olive branch by someone quite overwhelmed with their circumstances. Again, if you have a better deal for our community then make it, and bring it to GVZ for approval. For now, Bob thnks us for understanding and hopes that the 50% rebate on shipping with the code on all orders will be that olive branch going forward and when normal staffing returns, so could the shipping parameters.

Thanks for the update so we can make our purchase decisions with all the information as to the current situation. I really appreciate it.

If it makes anyone feel better, the BenzWorld code at Naperville was also changed to 50% off.

I don't know of *any* other dealer that offers free shipping, or even 50% off shipping...

:grouphug:

pelicanparts.com offers free shipping on orders over $50 bux and they have oem and after market parts(indicated next to part number)

Some parts are a few bucks more or less. Its a good site to use if you do big orders or get non oem parts.

PelicanParts' prices are all over the map, but most of the time they DO NOT compare to Naperville or other Revolution Parts dealership sites.

The only other site I know that provides free shipping is MB Annapolis (getmercedesparts.com), but that's by special arrangement :)

Let's do a little work on prices for that radiator, using various sites:

PelicanParts
  • Nissens - $241.50
  • Behr - 296.00
AutohauZ
  • Nissens - $171.99
  • Mahle Behr - $119.96 (likely Chinese made)
RM European
  • Nissens - Doesn't appear to be carried
  • Behr - $218.97
FCP Euro
  • Nissens - $177.41
  • Behr - Doesn't appear to be carried
PartsGeek
  • Nissens - $199.58
  • Behr - $223.73
ECS Tuning
  • Nissens - $180.95
  • Mahle Behr - $237.00
Amazon
  • Nissens - $199.88
  • Behr - $237.75

You are right. The exact same order I posted above which was 48 bux with 50% off shipping was 52 bux on pelicanparts with free shipping.

Its a good site for certain things but not all the time

Thank you for taking the initiative in speaking w Bob and laying all this out for us. Renee, Bob, and the rest of the gang at Naperville have been very good to me over the years. They have consistently provided excellent customer service for me, adjusting, adding to, subtracting from, and otherwise modifying orders after the fact. That burns time and they have always gone above and beyond for me, with a cheerful attitude.

I will also point out that I have had reasonably good customer service from AutohausAZ as a purveyor of OEM parts. Regarding Pelican/Peach form OEM parts, I have always found their pricing, plus tax and shipping, to be moderately uncompetitive.

That all said I very much appreciate the service and domain expertise provided by Naperville for OE parts, and I will continue to patronize them. Here’s to hoping they work through the exisitng economic challenges, and that we can resume “the normal” in 2021.

:plusone: with @Jlaa

I've always had GREAT experiences with MB Naperville. I've always had GREAT experiences with AutohauZ.

I've ordered from Peach (a few times), FCP Euro, and Importec in the past. All decent, but not GREAT (with FCP screwing me once in the past). Across the board, day in and day out, it's really pretty impossible to beat MB Naperville for overall parts costs. They've been quite good to us, and for now we need to repay them back and give up a portion of the free shipping to help THEM OUT, as they have helped US out in the past.

I have had some correspondence over the past 24-48 hours with Bob. One thing I would ask -- if you place an order with MB Naperville in the future, DO NOT place an order for one single $5 or $10 item and get the free shipping, and then turn around 3 days later and place a similar order.

Bundle your orders together, and at least place one single $50 or $100 or $200 order instead of 6 or 7 orders for $5 or $10. It's MUCH less work for them, and it saves them shipping costs when YOU plan ahead and put in fewer, larger orders rather than multiple tiny orders.

I told Bob today that they should put a $50 or $100 minimum order to stop the abuse of the system by members of this forum. Whether we go back to free shipping, or stay at 50% shipping -- the abuse of the free shipping by members of this forum has hurt us.

I've always been surprised there wasn't a minimum order amount required. That's a simple way to prevent abuse, and also ensure they don't lose money spending $5 to ship a $3 item they made $0.50 on. I suggested the same to nocfn before he talked to Bob as well. I almost always submit large orders, my usual problem is waiting 1-2 weeks while some oddball item is retrieved from under a thick layer of dust in a German warehouse.

:apl:

I have to say that I used free shipping on numerous small orders before. After reading this thread I definitely will order parts in fixed intervals.

I wish they would offer local pickup without having to wait for shipping. Just ordered some motor mounts and Evac drain hoses. It appears that the driver's side tie rod is NLA. I received a passenger lemfoerder one form FCPEURO and it was made in Germany.

I have no problem with a minimum order either. But what I don't understand -- and I know we've all seen this -- is when they ship out in multiple deliveries and something as small as a screw will arrive in a 1' cube box or larger, repleat with bubble wrap. Even with larger orders of small parts I've seen them arrive in a 3' long box full of bubble wrap.

Is there any discretion on their part when deciding the size of the box or does in not matter to FedEx? Maybe they should consider using the FedEx overnight envelopes for smaller items, or even USPS at less than $7, especially when it has to come in separate shipments due to parts availability at a particular location. A lot of the box sizes I'm seeing are downright ridiculous considering what's inside them. Since the free shipping is going away, they should make available USPS as a shipping option. I'd rather pay 100% of the USPS shipping versus 50% of the FedEx shipping. Just my 2 cents.

Packaging depends on the source. When they order the parts in-house and ship everything together, it usually goes in one box.

However when they drop-ship from MB warehouses, they have no control how the warehouse packs each box, and items may come from all over the USA. It's typically the warehouse shipments where you get one small item in an oversize box.

AFAIK, the dealer has little to no visibility to the warehouse ship charges... it's likely rolled into a monthly invoice to the dealer, or something along those lines. But when they pack it locally and ship FedEx Ground or UPS Ground, they should see their actual charges for the one box.

I don't think USPS is an option available to them.

Correct. The default MBUSA shipping company for all stealerships and parts warehouses is FedEx.

You won't see genuine MB parts being shipped from the RevParts dealers or from the Classic Center or MBUSA parts warehouses via DHL, UPS or USPS.

Considering the new wait times at Naperville, and now the shipping costs, I hate to say it but I think I'm going to start looking elsewhere for parts.

It depends on the situation for me. Since I am deep into Porsche projects I can wait for my E500 fuel hose preventative maintenance order. But on my Porsche project items I am paying close attention to the shipping time. FCP Euro & Pelican Parts are fully up and running. Both got my Sunday orders to me by Thursday all set for the weekend of wrenching. But I think parts is FCP Euro and Pelican's core business. MB of Naperville must be on an almost 100% complete shut down (who is buying new cars now?) and looks like only Bob in the parts department is the only working staff.

FWIW @RicardoD, I just received some of my fuel hose preventative maint order from Bob today - I ordered the same parts that you ordered - 3 separate boxes. I will open the boxes after a few days of decontamination....

Have you guys tried Smythe European in San Jose, or Autobahn Motors directly adjacent to the galactic headquarters of my employer?

I must be on Bob’s sh*t list as my $265 fuel line order is still listed as New in my order status

I ordered mine on 3/31 after speaking with you 😳. My order was exactly the same with the exception of:

- no fog lamp assembly bolt (if that is holding things up?)
- added fuel filter

for a total of $298.

Anyways, I just checked --- my order on the website is also listed as "OPEN ORDER" and status is set to "IN PROGRESS". I opened the boxes in the garage this morn - two from Carol Stream, IL, and one from NJ.

BTW - I also always type up a short thank you note in the comments section of the order page if that helps?

I think @RicardoD would be a likely candidate to try Smythe as San Jose is so hard to get to (with traffic) from SF that it might as well be Mars. :)

Autobahn right off 101 ---- Autobahn gives me PTSD, but it is not their fault. For anyone that has commuted from SF to the South Bay, Autobahn always represented a milestone on the evening commute northbound on 101. I did that commute for over a decade.

After slogging through rage-inducing traffic northbound for an hour from Mountain View to Belmont (where Autobahn is), Autobahn would always represent that one final accomplishment! Right after you would pass Autobahn, the traffic would let up a little bit and you would often be able to drive free of stop-n-go traffic for a mile or two until you hit South SF. As long as there were no accidents and it wasn't raining.

So you can see how my frame of mind after upon resting my gaze on Autobahn every evening was not a good one. More like PLEASE GET ME OUT OF THIS MESS NOW!!!! ARRGGHHH!!! Juxtapose my rage-sitting-in-traffic-mindset with vibe that Autobahn would also try to give off "OOOHHHH..... LOOOK....... 15 shiny white MB AMGs lined up next to 15 shiny black MB AMGs........... for all to gaze on while on the 101 ..... WTF am I going to do with 700 HP when I'm driving 0.05 MPH average?" .... and that's my reason for having never stopped by. :fun:

I saunter over there once in a while at lunch, to get out and breathe that fresh Bay Area air.

Daresay that this is a better view when I'm out walking, than Autobahn, though....

Update to my order --

  • Ordered parts on 3/31/2020
  • Received parts on 4/16/2020
  • Today, 4/18/2020, I received a shipment notification that my parts have shipped (obviously) 🤣

@Jlaa your killing me. I am not sure if I should call or email or if that fog light screw is holding me ups (actually a screw for my lower dashed from my combo switch job, I dropped it and it disappeared, so I want the replacement. )

I'm in no hurry. If you need those fuel line parts ASAP, you are more than welcome to take them, and then I would take yours when yours arrive. :-)

I received an email today from Bob at MB Naperville. One of my fuel lines is coming from Germany but the rest of the delivery will be this week. I appreciated the note and glad that Bob is doing his best during these difficult times.
