Is the underhood foam sealing piece 124.682.05.26 still available?

Is this piece still available? I tried getting this from Naperville but they keep showing $90 worth of shipping to ship a foam piece?!?!?!

I tried a parts search here and it came back inconclusive: link to parts search at mercedes-benz-classic

BTW the EPC does show that this part is used in preface lift 124.036s as well as postfacelift (I saw lots of threads that indicate this part is for post facelift cars)

I'm pretty sure this is available, JLAA. Their shipping calculator is based off weight & dimensions, and this item is large... but the calculator isn't smart enough to know it will fold in half for shipping. Don't worry, the free ship code should still work at checkout.

If it is actually NLA... awwww, crap.

:(

Thanks. Yeah, the free ship code actually doesn't work at checkout. There is a maximum shipping discount of $75, so it tells me I still need to pay shipping costs for this foam part :-) :-) Looks like I'll have to call Renee during the week. :-)

Hmmm. I thought the code was good for up to $100 in shipping fees? Isn't the BW... er, TFTSNBN code good for $100?

Ahhh.... interesting. Either my memory is off (VERY likely), or they reduced one or both to $75 max.

Gerry, if you read my post, you'll see why Jlaa tried the other code.

:stickpoke:

Call them and they will not charge shipping for something of this size.

Note that the free promo code for 500Eboard has ALWAYS been up to $75 of free shipping. Let me modify that statement -- when they first instituted the 500E code, it was only $50 of shipping. Later on (a few years ago now) they increased it to $75 of free shipping cost.

I just had a hood pad and some other stuff delivered in a HUGE (MB windshield/glass) box and there was no cost on shipping.

Also, note that MB Naperville does not charge sales tax. This is another kicker over many of the other online parts sites that otherwise offer similar discounts (26%) on parts.

By the way, I believe this center foam part IS still available. It's the rubber/plastic "end" parts that are NLA from MB. I recently sold a nice set of original ones here on this forum.

And yes, the center foam piece is the same identical part for both pre- and facelift cars.

Careful they don't ship you one that is made for a diesel, as these have a silver foil patch over the turbo area. I ordered one from Husker (supposedly for the 500E) and they sent me the one for the diesel - ended up not using it, because it's just not the right one.

It IS the right one. It is the ONLY one. All 124 sedan hood pads have been superseded to the diesel pad with the foil patch.

Good to know that it wasn’t Husker’s mistake. I will just stick with the original one as long as possible as the foil piece just isn’t the original state.

Do you still have it? Mboemparts.com is showing A1246820526 as NLA

I think TimL was referring to the large hood pad, which is only available from the dealer with the big square foil heat shield. You can get aftermarket versions without the foil patch.

The foam gasket across the front, 124-682-05-26, has been NLA since last year. Unless you can locate NOS on eBay or something, it will be very hard to locate a replacement. Most used vehicles have the foam disintegrating, unless you stumble across a junkyard car that had a front-end accident where this foam happened to be replaced during the repair work (and therefore is much newer), and can be removed intact.

Well SHOOT! That sucks. I ordered a new from an ebay vendor last September and after many weeks the order got cancelled because of ....... reasons. Now I know why. 😭

Note the left (driver) side seals are different between V8 models and non-V8. EPC indicates the right/passenger is the same but I don't recall seeing that in reality - will need to double check if this is accurate.

:scratchchin:

The foil-free W124 hood pad is no longer available from the factory. The 124 hood pads have been superseded into the part number above in the table.

Occasionally, very occasionally, I find cars at the wrecking yard with the hood foam and side seals that are in good condition. When I find them, I sell them here. I actually have one side piece for sale right now, if someone wants it.

May I be first in line for the next 3 hours, before I make a decision?

I now have examples of the factory (with foil) and the aftermarket hood pads.

The aftermarket hood pad (without foil) from AutohauZ is more true to the original equipment E500E hood pad than the factory unit -- specifically not only because it doesn't have the foil, but the aftermarket pad has a cloth/fabric face (like the factory pad) with a foam backing.

It's also one-half the price of the factory hood pad. If you don't want the foil on the pad, I'd go for the aftermarket pad.

I will be posting pics. Will try to get them posted over the weekend. I just can't bring myself to put the foil pad on my E500. So I guess I'll put it up for sale. Perhaps @gsxr will take it for a 1987 Wagon diesel 124, since he loves them so much.

Remember that 86-89 models use different hood pads than 90-up. Shape is different near the bottom corners, as viewed with the hood vertical.

And yes, I wouldn't mind finding a clean 87 coal-rolling estate, in a nice color combo... not likely though.

:apl:

Man I wish I knew that before doing both my 124s in the last few weeks. OE is great but that foil bugs me.
I don't even care to see pics, almost prefer not to. Humph.
I installed the OEM pad a few years back and ended up painting the foil flat black. Easier on the eyes now.

It´s a foam material.... Not OEM but looks more OEM than the original ones with the aluminum plate.

Unfurtunatly The OE part looks out of place, need an alternative with a more correct look

I did not buy the aftermarket pad as I am not sure if its the same material, the OE pad has a light cloth covering the foam to protect it from deterioration. It much easier to clean as well.

Has anyone seen the Febi pad to confirm the material?

Thanks to all the great info on this site I ordered the pad from Autohaus AZ that was recommended. Dirt cheap yet dead on the original. 🙏🏻 & 🍻

Correct. I have the factory pad and the aftermarket one, and I intend to install the aftermarket one as it is more closely matching of the original pad. Plus the factory pad has that stupid diesel foil on the underside, which serves ZERO purpose on the .036 (except perhaps if the @gsxr were to retrofit one of his 124 diesels' turbos to an M119).
