Is there anything cooler than a Brabus Tempamatic?

Never seen that type before. VERY cool. Shame it's probably made of pure unobtanium...

Damn... He's got some very nice Mods, Alcantara roof, Command and leather stitched Console

The stitching is not period correct (unless its an E60 AMG with stitching all around) and if one is to do that, might as well do all seats and the whole dashboard. Looks like a half-ass job.

That happens to be a latter model Tempamatic, looks like it was retrofitted (should replace the outside temp display).

See the attached pictures for my Tempamatic system. Sorry its not on my site, its in my "to do" list of items for my web site.

My kit came from a 6cyl car, so I had to cut away the old drain plug, drill out a V8 drain plug and remount the oil sensor. My dash trim came with an alarm LED mounted in it, which I removed and fit the volume control for my Infinity Basslink (last picture)

I really like the later version! Any idea how difficult it would be to retrofit?

:3gears:

More pictures.

Removal of the cluster and lower bolster required. A good section of the lower bolster needs to be cut out as well. Even then, its a tight squeeze to fit it all in place.

Good question, since I have never seen one for sale I can't comment on what that particular kit consists of. Have seen these installed on W208's and W210's mostly, but I do have one picture of this kit installed on a W124, replacing the regular outside temp display (thats probably where it is suppose to go)

Some of the later Tempamatic systems used a sensor mounted to the dip stick, goofy idea IMO but probably much easier than dealing with a oil sensor mounted in the drain plug. (see picture of later gen kit)

Command?
What is that unit, and what's it from?

Comand = Cockpit management and display.

Its the Navigation+Radio+TV+CD unit from newer MBs, I think the one used here is either a W203 or a similar system from Becker or VDO Siemens.

I don't think its too difficult as the wiring on these systems are similar to the late W124 cars. There are Units that don't use D2B connections.

Would be interesting to investigate, it goes well with the W124 interior and has all the newer features

The Comand would need to be a non-canbus Comand, so probably its from a 98-99 W210. Definately not a W203 unit

These have been retro fitted to W201's, W124's, W202's etc. The nice retro fit is the W202, where you also retrofit the dash cluster (from W208) and the 2000 steering wheel with Coman controls. Very nice but a total PITA.

Cost wise and time wise, you would be better off getting a aftermarket nav system (better anyway)

I had a Euro Comand in my CLK32k with the euro TV tuner. Used the aux inputs of the tuner to feed a signal from my trunk mounted DVD changer.

Well Rik, I should have known you would have the answer to this!

I have been looking at retrofitting a 2 DIN Nav + Ent. system, but I didn't like the solutions for the aftermarket units with large screens that flip outwards.

This may be what I'm looking for.

Will the North American units take iPods, Bluetooth, play DVD's and run a camera? Or are these systems too old for that?

Personally, I wouldn't go that route. The older Comand is not that great and the amount of work needed to install a double din isn't worth it either.

If you do some searching, you can find more info about the install into the W124, here is just one thread

http://www.mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w ... -w124.html

My CLK32k came with Comand, otherwise I would of went with a single din unit w/flip out screen. I don't run this type of setup in my 500e because the NAV units don't have the amount of DSP processing that I want, so I use the head that I want and a TomTom when needed.

On that note, there are NAV units built into rear view mirrors, very slick looking! Once I find one that can be modified to fit into the W124, I will be all over it.

I know the owner of the car... he's from our German W124 Forums.
See: http://w124-board.de/thread.php?threadid=8947

His car was also featured unter mercedes-fans.de in an article about the infamous 500E ;-)

The Thing is a Brabus Tempmatic, its not available anywhere to get anymore these days, besides..... One guy currently sells exactly the unit in the german W124 Forums. I think it was around 500€ he is asking. Its brand-new.
