Rear License Plate Filler Panel - early w124.036 ?

I used 3M body molding tape, which is super duper incredibly strong. .. If I could give a prize of "best shit in the world" to a roll of tape, I would give it to this tape.

These both work and are about the same - different packaging for different marketing use cases, but essentially super similar if not the same. There is a Citroen CX rolling around somewhere with 6 pcs of restored window trim stuck on with this stuff ..... 🤷🏻‍♂️
It works fantastic on metal, smooth plastics, brick, and drywall. It doesn’t work well on vinyl.

This stuff is great. Generally re-branded VHB as 3M analytics discovered the names were more impactful to sales. There are industrial versions of the molding tape that have specs that would blow up the 03609, if you can imagine that. As an example, some aerospace applications have replaced rivets for this tape :coolgleam:

I've had a roll of the 3M VHB (very high bond) given to me by a retired 3M employee for some time. Very useful stuff as said. Really incredible what it will hold.

Any way to release it or is it permanent?
Yes. Carefully peel it off. With a lot of force. SLOWLY.

Here is a 3M guide on VHB (Best shit in the world) that you may find useful. I had an upholsterer (who has now unfortunately retired) that used what I believe is 4905 to adhere leather pieces on to plastic trim (seat back release levers). 4905 is only 20 mils thick.

Note the part in the beginning of the pdf where they advocate using VHB to secure the sides of buses together.
