Transmission/engine issues

I would like to thank everyone on this website, without you I don’t know what I would do. I live in Saint Petersburg Florida, we have tremendous high humidity
I have changed distributor cap (with additional slots) rotor, back of distributor and plug wires. It has run great for a couple of months since I did this work.
Today the following happened. This has never happened till today

1) it ran rough like it had moisture in the cap
2) the transmission started to slip, to the point I coasted to the curb. The engine would rev up, but the transmission didn’t work
3) the air conditioning started to blow warm air, the same temperature as outside
4) I put it in low gear and went another mile to the store
5) 30 minutes later I started it and put it in low gear, It started to drive better. It shifted it up one gear and then finally in drive.
6) the a/c started to blow cold when the engine ran better
7) got home and had an adult beverage

Any ideas. Thanks
