found this laying underneath the washer resevoir. Can't make out where it should be plugged? Everything seem to be working ok - headlamps, wipers and washers .

Cheers!

Probably for the air injection (smog) pump.

:detective:

Dave, are Euro cars fitted with smog pump? If so where might it be located? Otherwise could it be just pre wiring for it?

The vast majority of all 500E's... probably over 90%... have catalysts, and all cars with catalysts have the smog pump. It only runs for a few minutes after a cold start and afterwards it just freewheels, so it doesn't cost any power, just a few pounds of extra weight.

I believe the wire with the male pins goes to the pump clutch. The body/chassis side should have female pins. The connection is buried behind the passenger headlight and held in place with Zip ties, it's nearly impossible to disconnect without pulling the headlamp assembly out of the car - very annoying!

I made it with pulling the washer-fluid reservoir which i had to do anyway, to connect all those vacuum-lines for the electrical switches for EGR and Air-Pump....

Dave, is it doing any harm while it's disconnected?? Not sure how long it's been laying down there but I sure can't remember disconnecting it. It's possible that it may have been disconnected unknowingly while I was changing the washer bottle and removing the headlamp unit (each separate occasion) :banger: . And given the type male/female connection with a locking clip it coud not have been pulled off on its own. :? :?: :?

thanks again

Nah, shouldn't hurt anything, as long as you don't have any error codes. Now that I think of it, only the USA models have a "Check Engine" light, which would normally trigger if this was disconnected. But for Euro models, there should be no problems (the error code may show up each time you check codes, but you can ignore it).
