FYI Group Buy: Lamin-X Headlight + Fog Light covers, 12-mil

I’m in for a set of headlamps + fogs. Thanks, Gerry!
Please contact me via PM to complete the transaction. I am heading to the post office today, so if we can get this done I'd like to send it along with several other Lamin-X orders.

I've shipped five orders of Lamin-X in the past couple of days, so I'm currently out. I re-ordered a new 30-foot roll this morning, and it should be here in about a week, if anyone has been thinking about putting in an order.

I only offer templates for Euro headlights + fog lamps for 124 and 126 (coupe) models. If you have a 129 or 140, I am happy to sell you the Lamin-X in the quanitities you'll need, but you are on your own in terms of creating a template for your car.

I am in for a set of headlamps + fogs too... Many Thanks Gerry!!!
Please PM me and we'll take care of the deal. I'm heading to the post office tomorrow (Friday) so would love to get these out for you. Just got a fresh stock of Lamin-X today.

For anyone else needing Lamin-X (particularly Euro headlamp owners), I have a fresh supply as of this afternoon.

Thanks
Gerry
Gerry, I'll take another set for my brother's R129 (headlights only) "uncut/uncircumcized" as last time
...
I would be comfortable with 13" x 8" measurements for each headlight...
Same way to pay as last time via PayPal F&F?

Regards
D

Bumping this again -- two orders of Lamin-X went out last night. I still have most of a whole roll available if anyone needs some for their Euro-spec or US facelift headlamp lenses.

:bump:

This is what happens eventually to your fog lamp and headlight lenses when you go without protection for them.

Also note the sandblasting. This 560SEC fog lamp lens is NLA from MB; fortunately I had one spare (onto which I installed Lamin-X) to replace this broken one.

I never did install the set I received. I put it off as a priority due to the infrequent use of the car. I'll now take the time install them. Too cold to do anything outside tomorrow. I'll just have to stay in the garage. 🔧

Thank you twice. Glad you had a spare.

It’s a 15 minute job once you cut the film with the templates. Just make sure you clean the lenses really good with Windex or other good cleaner.

Make sure you use a credit card as you go along to force out air bubbles. Go slow and work your way along. Tape one side of the film with backing to the lens to keep it in the exact position you want it. Then rip the backing off the side you didn’t tape, then work it down from the center until you get to the edge. Then untape the other side, remove backing, and do same other direction from center to edge.

All Lamin-X orders should now be fulfilled.

I do have plenty of new Lamin-X material available; however I ran out of the round cardboard mailing tubes, so any incoming orders will not be fulfilled likely for a few days until a new batch of mailing tubes is received.

I recently received a complaint from a member whom I had sold a set of pre-Facelift Euro Lamin-X + template to, that the template was too small for the Euro lens. The pre-Facelift Euro template that I use is literally an EXACT COPY of the template that I received from Lamin-X 15+ years ago when I ordered a set from them.

Has anyone else with pre-facelift Euro 124 lenses from me experienced that the Lamin-X-sourced template that I provide for these lenses, is too small? I have never received a complaint about any of my templates, so I am a bit taken aback.

I did notify the member that I will provide him a full, new set of Lamin-X plus postage, at my expense. But I am interested to know if others have experienced this alleged problem.

Thanks,
Gerry

Anyone have a complaint to report?

Because I am steaming mad that I have to replace someone's complete set of Lamin-X at my cost, due to installation user error, just to maintain my own integrity of someone who stands behind the products they sell. Despite in this case the Lamin-X and template being 100% functional and correct.

I am happy to partially or fully refund money if something I sell doesn't work (and have in a few cases). But it is just wrong for someone to ask me for replacement product to correct something that THEY screwed up, not something that I screwed up or something faulty I sold them.

Did they send a photo of the "wrong" template taped to the lens, showing the size differential?

:scratchchin:

:scratchchin:
Yes. They tried to wrap the template around the outer edge of the glass lens (after cutting one piece of the Laminate-X) and then flagged it to me as the template being too small (looks like 1/4-1/2 inch) on the inside edge.

User error but I sent two new pieces of Laminate-X with four extra inches of width so this person can create his own larger template if he wishes. All at my expense for the new set + postage.

It’s Lamin-X’s template — good enough for dozens of people I’ve sold to here. Guess it goes to show that you can’t assume that everyone knows how to properly apply the film. Guess I need to create some explicit instructions to eliminate user error in the future.

Yes, this situation really burned me up, as you can tell.

Guess we need a HOW-TO on 124-specific Lamin-X installation! *double checks to make sure there isn't one already* Yup, need a HOW-TO...

✂️ 🔪 💡

I haven't installed these in a long time, but from memory, I cut the Lamin-X oversize, apply it to the glass, then trim all around. If trying to pre-cut on the workbench so it fits perfectly on the glass without trimming... that might be tough.

:wormhole:

Sure I'd be more than happy to capture some photos that go over the process! 🙂 My wife was awesome and got a very large set of universal ones for me on Christmas

I've applied this to 2 cars so far with perfect success each time. Both times, I applied it on the car (versus taking the headlamps out and doing directly on the glass).

BTW: the green scraper that Lamin-X includes in their pack (for getting bubbles out) is a great tool to keep for removing the old hood pads

It's exceedingly easy to install while the headlights are on the car. A credit card or similar works equally well as the scrapers. They key is just taking your time, observing closely to ensure that air bubbles aren't present as you go along, and being willing to pull the Lamin-X back up to remove the bubbles as you go along. If you're careful with the scraper/credit card, as you go along, you shouldn't have ANY air bubbles.

Lol ok hold the phone here Gerry, absolutely no user error here.

Due to the nature of the Lamin-X being rolled it curls up, so it’s hard to take a photo with one hand, so I tucked the VERY edge of it to try to display that the template provided is about .25-.35” short on width, it’s dead on for height though.

I am super appreciative that you sent me a new set, but the template was wrong. Photos below.

You can also clearly see I didn’t botch cutting out the template sheet.

Edit: I should also clarify i’m not trying to start any beef, but it’s also not the craziest mistake if a template was wrong.

Maybe something that @bclifton can do for us with a digital camera.
Sorry it took so long- finally got the W124 garage parked. Here's a step by step guide - comments and questions welcomed 🙂

I just sold and shipped my last bit of Lamin-X on the current roll I have had.

If there is interest in folks purchasing more Lamin-X for the headlamps, please let me know. Otherwise I will hold off on purchasing a large roll until there is enough interest.

Despite Lamin-X raising the MSRP price nearly $25 for a 30-foot roll over when I last ordered in late 2022, they are running a special right now that is actually slightly cheaper than the previous price paid. Thus, even with significantly increased postage costs, I would be able to offer the Lamin-X at the last stated prices from 2022, which are as follows:

All W124 kits (and W126 kits) come with appropriate headlight lens and foglight lens templates.

MY PRICING:
  • Set of Lamin-X headlamp protectors only -- $38 postpaid in the US, per set **same price as 2022; no price increase
  • Set of Lamin-X headlamp protectors + fogs -- $43 postpaid in the US, per set **same price as 2022; no price increase
  • Set of Lamin-X fog-lamp protectors only -- $13 postpaid in the US, per set **same price as 2022; no price increase
Compare with prices for same from Lamin-X:
  • Headlamp protectors only -- $48 now $54.95 MSRP + tax + shipping (typically this will be pushing $55-60 $70+)
  • Headlamp protectors + fogs -- $58 now $64.95 MSRP + tax + shipping (typically this will be pushing $63-70 $80+)

Hi, Gerry,

If this thread is still live and you can post to teh UK I'd be interested in a set for head and fof lights please.

Regards

OK. I will put an order in for a 30-foot roll of Lamin-X then.

I am happy to ship overseas, at buyer's cost (less the built-in domestic US shipping cost that I have in the sale price). I just shipped a set of Lamin-X to Finland via USPS, and it was $30. So I would put the UK between USD $25 and $30 -- meaning ~$20 added to the quoted shipping price above.

:update:

Lamin-X has been ordered. I expect it to be here by the end of the week.

Please let me know via PM what you need, for what car, and how much. I can ship up to three sets in a single tube (inclusive shipping in quoted prices above) or more sets in larger tubes at additional shipping cost.

Great. Thanks Gerry. Apart from the cash, what do you need from me now? Cheers.

Just hit me up via PM and we can exchange details, mailing address, and so forth. Hopefully PayPal friends and family is OK to you. I should have the new roll of Lamin-X in hand in the next couple of days.

Here is the list as I have it so far.

This will be for the 12-mil thickness Lamin-X.

For the 124 "Facelift / Euro" lenses, a 13" long by 8" wide piece, per lens, is required.

The total cost will be somewhere around USD $28-30 per pair, including shipping, for domestic US orders. Likely it will be around USD $40 shipped for overseas/Europe orders (exact amount will be provided at time of shipping).

Compare this with the per-pair cost that Lamin-X quotes, which is (for the W124 facelift, 12-mil thickness) -- $44.95 + $5-8 shipping.
Lamin-X offers a 10% off discount, which would make the total cost for a US East Coast shipment $45.22 per pair.

I will need six people (two of them will be myself) to make this worthwhile. This would be to purchase a 15' roll to make six sets. If I get 10 or more people, then I'll purchase a 30' roll, which would be enough to make 12 sets.

LAMIN-X GROUP BUY
1. @gerryvz (E500 / W124)
2. @gerryvz (560SEC / C126)
3. @Duh_Vinci (R129, uncut/uncircumcised) - confirming dimensions
4. @JC220 (C140, uncut/uncircumcised) - confirming dimensions
5.

I would be interested but mine is not facelift, is ‘92 500E.

I have headlamp templates for both facelift and pre-facelift cars. The pre-facelift templates are the original templates from Lamin-X. Templates are included in all orders for appropriate headlights. I do not sell Lamin-X for stock/standard US-spec W124/500E headlamps with the square sealed-beams -- ONLY the pre-facelift "Euro" headlamps.

If you are interested in a set of Lamin-X protectors for your headlamps and fog lamps, please PM me and we can arrange a transaction.

:update:

Lamin-X is at my local post office now, and will be delivered on Monday. That means that orders can be shipped on Monday night, to go out with Tuesday's mail.

Given the current firm orders I have received, I will have enough Lamin-X for about 7-8 more sets.

Here are another very happy buyer of Lamin-X from Gerry. I'm really grateful that he is putting this together in the first place, and that I could get a kit sent to Sweden.

I'll post my results once I've done my assemblies up.

Installed the Lamin-x today, I did however notice that the template @gerryvz provided in my shipment is a few centimetres short. As Gerry said numerous times it’s prudent to check the template on your actual lens before installing is good advice.

So I bettered the template, then I cut the pieces with a straight edge, finishing off the corners with scissors.

Installation was a breeze, I cleaned the lenses with window cleaner, the isopropyl alcohol.

Then I misted the lenses with demineralised water, removed the backing paper and placed the film lightly from centre out. Then I misted the film again to provide some lubrication and used a squeegee to get the water and larger bubbles out.

It’s very obvious what high quality Lamin-x is! I’ll have some after pictures after the weekend when the film has bonded and breathed out the minor bubbles.

Thank you again Gerry!

What is the Lamin-x fix for a 124 cab and a 93 500e?
If your pre-facelift car is running stock US headlights (the square lamps inset into a plastic surround), then Lamin-X is not really needed.

For a facelift US car, Lamin-X is a good idea (as it is with other chassis with one-piece glass headlight lenses).

Of course, on a pre-facelift US car, you could install Lamin-X to protect the plastic headlight door (plastic surrounding the headlamp + the inner fog or driving light), and another piece specifically for the headlight portion. This would be protection from sand-blasting & any rock dings/cracks in the plastic.

Hi Gerry. Do you still have some of the Lamin-X left? If so, I'd like to grab a pair of headlight protectors for my facelifted S124.

Cheers,
Russell
