I am back in town, and will be starting on the Lamin-X orders tonight in earnest. Stay tuned for invidivual communications for each participant, including payment information.

Shipments will not be posted until payment is received. My target is to have shipments go out over the weekend. I'll be finalizing everything during the Army-Navy football game on Saturday, since we decided not to attend this year in person.

Thanks
Gerry

I just did the calculations for this group buy, comparing with the amount of material that I have.

I cannot accept any more orders at this time, as we are completely maxed out. Actually, I won't even be able to do both of my own cars, so I'll only do my own E500 at this point.

Each participant will receive (for 1 set):
  • 30 inches x 12 inches of Lamin-X -- 15-inch length of Lamin-X for each headlamp
  • 5 inches x 12 inches of Lamin-X -- for both fog lamps (if ordered)
  • Headlamp template traced on a piece of paper for the type of headlamp you specified -- facelift and pre-facelift glass profiles are significantly different, particularly on the in-board side
  • Foglamp template traced on a piece of paper
The headlamp template can be reversed to do the other side. Same with the foglamp template.

Fitment will require the following:
  1. Carefully and thoroughly clean your headlamp glass using glass cleaner and appropriate microfiber or cleaning towels. If you have glass polish, this would be an excellent time to use it to polish your headlamp glass and prepare it for installation of the Lamin-X
  2. Fit the supplied template to your headlamp (and fog lamp, if applicable) glass, to ensure it's a proper fit
  3. Use a marker or pen to trace the template shape onto each piece of supplied Lamin-X
  4. Use an X-acto or other sharp hobby knife, or scissors, to carefully cut out the traced shape on your pieces of Lamin-X
  5. Peel the adhesive backing off of the Lamin-X and apply according to their instructions

The final price will be as follows for each set:

Set of Lamin-X headlamp protectors only -- $25 postpaid in the US, per set

Set of Lamin-X headlamp protectors + fogs -- $30 postpaid in the US, per set

Set of Lamin-X fog-lamp protectors only -- $8 postpaid in the US, per set

Multiple sets (in addition to base cost above):
  • headlamps only, each additional set $20.00;
  • headlamp + fogs -- $25 per set
So, for example, if you are purchasing TWO sets of headlamps + fogs, the total cost would be $55.00

This is less than one-half the cost that Lamin-X is charging for their protectors (although theirs are pre-cut) with fogs.

All individual pieces of Lamin-X for each headlight have now been cut. Every piece is approximately 1.5 inches wider and quite a bit taller than the total width and height of the headlight lens, so extra material is included.

I will cut out the headlight and fog-light templates today, for inclusion in each kit.

From there I will obtain the appropriate mailing materials. The Lamin-X pieces will fit inside of either size of a USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Medium box, but they are pretty much overkill size-wise (thickness) and postage cost $14 per box. I believe that a 2" x 12" cardboard mailing tube may be a better & more economical solution all around, so I have ordered appropriate mailing tubes with plastic end caps.

Final packing and assembly will happen during Saturday’s Army-Navy game. I may even make it to the post office and back during half-time ;-)

I will not ship until payment is received.

If you need it, Lamin-X's YouBoob channel with installation videos is located here:

Two people remaining to pay. Thanks to all who have sent payment and logistics information. This means that I can get nearly all of these out and mailed tomorrow.

:update:

I have two people who have not paid, totaling five sets of headlight Lamin-X sets, despite my request and regular updates over the past couple of weeks preparing them for the purchase. I was generous enough in paying for everything up front, not to mention THREE-PLUS hours (the entire Army-Navy football game) of cutting, templating, packing, double-checking and addressing all of the mailing tubes.

These five sets of Lamin-X will be made available to any additional folks who want them as of 8:00 Eastern Time on Monday morning (tomorrow).

All other sets have been packaged and will be going to the post office TODAY (Sunday) for Monday's mail. JC's package will be going out on Monday, because it requires a separate customs form that requires a visit to the postal counter.

Thanks to all of you who paid promptly. Everyone will be receiving a 12-inch cardboard tube with their Lamin-X included, and templates for the type of headlamps and foglamps they ordered. A couple of you will be receiving TWO tubes due to the number of Lamin-X sets ordered.

A few thoughts/tips for when you receive your packages:
  • When you cut out the template(s) from the included paper, do a test-fit of them against your glass. All of them are directly modeled from the actual E500E glass/foglights, but it's always a good idea before tracing the template onto the Lamin-X, to do a visual "test-fitment."
  • Remember that the Lamin-X is clear in color, so it is really not visible once installed unless you are REALLY close-up.
  • The cut Lamin-X should cover the flat (forward-facing) area of the glass. It should NOT wrap around the edges of the glass -- it is designed and templated to cover only the flat (exposed) area of the headlights and fogs. DO NOT try to wrap it around the edges of the glass, as it is not designed to do this. The flatter area will provide excellent adhesion.
  • Be sure to (at minimum) clean the glass with Windex or other glass cleaner before installing the Lamin-X. Better yet, for best results, use glass polish, then clean the glass, and then install the Lamin-X.

Last two tubes will be mailed today. The line at the Post Office was at least 50 people long, so I did not have the time to wait in line for an hour to mail the final two packages. I will go back to the Post Office this afternoon to get the tubes out. All other tubes are now on their way to the purchasers.

Thanks to all!

Everything has now been mailed and is on its way.

Thanks to everyone for the business. We pretty much used up all of a FULL 60-foot roll of Lamin-X.

It appears that the USPS is running slow, with the large Holiday rush of mail and packages.

I have added a column to the table above and when the USPS confirms delivery of the packages, I will be updating it on a daily basis.

Shipping Status has been updated in the table above. Most everyone should have received their Lamin-X & templates by now.

Three domestic packages waiting to be delivered, and I expect all three of them to be delivered on Monday, Dec. 23.

The International package on the way to @JC220 should be there in the next 10-12 days (I'm expecting a lag time based on the Christmas Holiday on both sides of the Atlantic).

One tip for installation -- the pieces of Lamin-X come rolled up pretty tightly in the 1.5" tubes that I shipped them in. About a week prior to installation, I recommend you remove the Lamin-X from the tube, and put it between two large books or other flat, modestly heavy items. This will flatten it out and remove any "curl" memory that the Lamin-X has from being rolled up. Only makes sense given the flat surface of the headlight lenses.

Also, I recommend that you install the Lamin-X in ambient temperatures at least 50F or higher. No particular reason other than a higher ambient temp will keep the Lamin-X more flexible than a colder temp would.

A parcel arrived in good condition today @gerryvz Thankyou!

It is easy for one's E500E to catch STDs without proper protection. Headlamp syphillis, acquired by water getting in through a micro-hole in the glass lens and rusting out the bottom of the reflector, can be a particularly persistent problem.

Glad everything arrived OK, and I will update the post apprpopriately.

I think If the ladies spot the restored m119 under the hood I'm done for honch! It will be a good thing the 5L is on tap when spotted

Nothing beats the ROI of the gray switches, factoring in the labour required for an M119 refresh. That said, you need to be careful with the Lamin-X, because when some ladies see that you are using "protection," some can be offended (and others perhaps grateful?).

This is all true Gerry! I prefer to believe that more discerning ladies will spot the m119 VS the more obvious grey door switches

Folks,

It appears that there is still some left-over demand for Lamin-X, as I've gotten a couple of new requests over the past few days for more sets. I will plan to order a new roll of the Lamin-X material and make more sets avaialble to folks, including headlight and foglight templates for folks who want them.

To that end, I'll start a new list here of folks who want to get in on the "new" group buy.

To reiterate on pricing:

The final price will be as follows for each set:

Set of Lamin-X headlamp protectors only -- $25 postpaid in the US, per set

Set of Lamin-X headlamp protectors + fogs -- $30 postpaid in the US, per set

Set of Lamin-X fog-lamp protectors only -- $8 postpaid in the US, per set

Multiple sets (in addition to base cost above):
  • headlamps only, each additional set $20.00;
  • headlamp + fogs -- $25 per set
So, for example, if you are purchasing TWO sets of headlamps + fogs, the total cost would be $55.00

This is less than one-half the cost that Lamin-X is charging for their protectors (although theirs are pre-cut) with fogs.

New 30-foot roll of Lamin-X has been ordered, along with a fresh supply of 12 two-inch mailing tubes.

This is enough for approximately 12 people to make new orders.

Here is current status.

Orders will be shipping to folks next Friday and Saturday, January 9 and 10.

Shipping tubes received today. Lamin-X is expected for delivery on Wednesday. All should be mailed on or by Friday.

Now is a good time for additional folks to get in on the deal. I have a number of sets that will be available, and can mail them easily.

Lamin-X received today. Orders will be going out tomorrow (Thursday).

I have plenty of Lamin-X left if folks want to make an order. Enough for 5-6 more people. You'll never see this cheap of a deal from Lamin-X, and if you have Euro headlights on your W124, this is a great time to protect them against stone chips and cracks !!

One tip for those installing their Lamin-X.

When you trace your included W124 headlight and fog light templates onto the Lamin-X, use a permanent marker (such as a “Sharpie,” and trace onto the paper backing side of the Lamin-X, NOT the front/clear side.

The permanent marker ink will adhere and dry better on that paper side as you cut it out with scissors or an X-acto knife.

Attached photo is showing a template tracing for a facelift headlamp.

Just a reminder that these headlight film kits also work on pedestrian UAS-spec E300, E320, and E420 facelift models. You can still get replacement lenses for those models but it's cheaper to keep your current ones intact with protective film!

:124:

Everything has been mailed, and status updated per above table. Thanks for your business, folks.

Gerry - if there is still material left over I'd like 1 set 500E Euro and fogs, and 1 set Euro W126 or whatever is doable with what's left (if anything).

I’ve got plenty left Kip, and can get out to you right away. Please PM me your mailing address. They will go in the mail to you as soon as I get your address.
I’m going to create a template for my C126, and it if turns out OK I will include a template for you in addition to the 124 template that I already have.

I can only do 126 coupe, not sedan. They may or may not be different, I don’t know.

Hi Gerry,
I’m interested in a set for a facelift ‘93 e320, and a 92 500e that has been facelifted . Both have Euro lights. I’d also want fog lamps for the 500.

Would you ship to New Zealand?

Regards,
Russell

I still have enough Lamin-X for three or four sets. If you do want a set, please PM me. The prices are:
  • $30 shipped for a set of W124 headlights and E500E foglights
  • $25 shipped for a set of W124 headlights alone
  • $20 for each additional set of W124 headlights (no postage required)
International shipments' postage is at the price paid (less the USD $5 included shipping). This generally has been around USD $25 to most places in the world (one or more sets is the same shipping cost).

Can someone post photos of the Lamin X fixed on the E500 Euro lenses and the fog lights So we can see how they look.

They should look pretty much like a regular lamp, because the Lamin-X is clear and goes pretty much to the edge of the flat (face) portion of the lens. So from a couple or more feet away, it should really not even be apparent.

You can see @2phast's installation on a Euro 500E lens in this thread:

Also, this video from @2phast Tactical Armament Systems should be helpful:

:update:

Just sold two sets of Lamin-X today. I think I have enough left for TWO or THREE sets of W124 headlamps from the second roll I bought recently. I'd like to see this roll GONE.

If you've been holding back from getting some Lamin-X for your car's headlights and/or foglights, now is a good time. I am shipping on a daily basis.

Cheers,
Gerry

I have now sold all of the second roll of Lamin-X, so am "out of stock."

If there are more folks who want to purchase Lamin-X for their cars, please let me know and I'll place an order for another roll, otherwise I'll mark this as a "done" group buy. I shipped a lot of sets and I hope folks are getting good use of it on their cars.

That's great, thanks for following up. I think yours went the farthest of any of the ones I shipped.

Is there anyone else who needs a set of Lamin-X?
