So boys and girls, this is what happens when your PS pump pulley bolts inexplicably decide to back out.

Thank goodness we were going about 20mph, not 120. My guess is that whoever installed the pulley last didn't torque the bolts properly.

My tensioner pulley bearing is getting noisy and has a slight wobble, too. Could that have contributed?

Anyway, I cut the belt off and we limped the one mile home, stopping twice to let the engine cool. Bolts properly torqued to 30nm, new MB belt installed, new tensioner on the way from Naperville.

YIKES! That is scary stuff. Any idea who / when the pulley was last removed? I doubt the tensioner pulley wobble would cause this.

When buying a replacement [belt tensioner] pulley (119-200-14-70), be careful out there. The aftermarket INA pulley I bought from RME a year ago had a TRUCKTEC junk pulley in the box. I was not amused. FCP's photos show the correct OEM pulley and claim COO is Japan, but I don't know if that information is old and INA changed what comes in the box? I'd shell out for OE, $63 at Naperville.

PS: The late tensioner doesn't include the pulley, the pulley is sold separately...

Which pulley is that part number for?

I just reused my ps pulley and figured the tensioner will come complete with pulley.

Are you suggesting I replace one or the other pulley?

Edit: just saw your note about the late tensioner not coming with a pulley. Well, that stinks.

The late-design, spring-tension belt tensioner (119-200-11-70) is sold separately from the pulley (119-200-14-70). If you only ordered the first part number, you'll also need to buy the second part number.

No need to replace the P/S pump pulley if it is undamaged.

Note: The EARLY tensioner, used only with 8-rib belts (1992 USA model years), is sold as an assembly that includes the pulley (119-200-02-70). This is a manual tensioner with rubber bearing and does not fit M119 engines with 6-rib belts.
