SL500 progress and thank you all!

Looks like 7+8 in your diagram are available as part of a kit, A1244100110, assuming it isn't NLA.

Is there a reason you aren't using the EPC or XPISS factory parts catalog, btw?

Thank you Dave, much appreciate it!

EPC/XPISS - my brother does not work at MB dealership anymore, and I never had a personal account. I've been using Mercedes FG 129.067 (536) > Mercedes EPC Online > nemigaparts.com as a guide and verifying part availability through partssearch.mercedes-benz-classic.com

And speaking of "availability", I remember when you were looking for the NLA antenna seal, I just replaced both of mine at that time, I thought about ordering an extra set, just in case, didn't... Fast forward to now: A12982702987C45, "Temporary not available. Please check again in 3 month."

You really should use an OFFICIAL MB parts resource -- either the subscription only ISPPI EPC from MB, or the free "old school" EPC that we make available (Option 4, post #1 in the thread) that you can install on your computer (Windows, Mac, Linux) and run via virtual machine.

Gerry, I have that page marked, option 4 post 25 of Ricardo... I'm not very computer savvy, I've tried that download option of a large file a year or so ago, and after 13-14 hours, I remember I couldn't do it, not sure if it somehow got corrupted or incomplete... But just went to https://partsouq.com/ from that thread, that seem to be a good alternative for now, thank you all!

I was planning doing this carrier bearing when the weather cools of a bit, but I miss driving red devil, so I persevered... 6 hours, but it drives beautiful! The bearing was fine (replaced it anyway), but the support bushing/bracket assembly failed indeed

IMG_2058-XL.jpg

The exhaust had to be disconnected, and dropped out of the way (cross over pipe and passenger side downpipe) rearwards - I kept intact

IMG_2053-X2.jpg

Very surprised how light the assembly is!

IMG_2054-X2.jpg

I made sure that all the original contact points I marked clearly for the balance sake

IMG_2055-X2.jpg

Dust cover perished too

Thank you Kind Sir, really glad to have a complete kit with everything needed!

IMG_2059-X2.jpg

Also replaced the downpipe to manifold bolts and all of the exhaust hangers while there. Took my 78 years young Paps for a drive, he enjoyed the "subtle" acceleration :gsxracer:

All in all, not a bad job, very straight forward and very rewarding!

TIme to do the add-ons to my brothers (my old SL320)...

i-cRmxD6t-X2.jpg

God knows it's been long enough

i-cHRRHTN-XL.jpg

Front apron (not surprising) fits flawlessly, just like on my SL500

i-8PTjRD8-XL.jpg

Rear apron requires some modification, since he has modified exhaust. He removed my old Magnaflow with oval tip, did complete muffler delete with AMG tips. I must admit, it sounds better than the Magnaflow, at least on M104 car (resonator still in place)

First, factory rear bumper needed to be trimmed to get the opening shape to match the tips

i-q33T3sF-XL.jpg

Then Expression apron get cut

i-Hh988hN-XL.jpg

And on the car, fits like a glove!

i-9HQwBNs-XL.jpg

And now, the "lip extension" in the making, that arch over exhaust tips, first for appearance, the "finished" look, as if it was made for the car, and not just cut to size, but also for the strength and structural integrity.

Once the fiberglass dries, will trim and feather to flawless finish

Ok, so it took me 6 months to get to his car, but the aprons - we attached tonight. It really is impressive the fit and finish of Expression pieces, really nice quality!

We had to special order the Wurth adhesive from the local distributor, can't find any online at a reasonable cost, but I tend to trust their product, holds up really well!

I think these aprons complement the car really well, not too much, not too little, just enough to make the pre-facelift R129 stand out

P.S. I enjoyed "The only one in the U.S. with Expression apron package R129 AFAIK", now, there are two... Copycat... :gsxr2:

Back to SL320... New wheels/tires and H&R DRA 25mm rear spacer is exactly what my brother wanted, it is fat, mean looking, his car, his money. And while we measured everything very very well, and there is zero rubbing when static

i-KLNGpBZ-X2.jpg

On the hard corners, that minor shift in suspension geometry, very light and occasional rubbing. That only means 1 thing:

i-M9RzMQS-X2.jpg

That's quite bit of the roll we did

i-vR264gc-X2.jpg

i-PPQJqL7-X2.jpg

Took our time, heated paint well and even, zero cracks, zero rubbing!

To the paint shop it goes in the next few weeks... Changing bottom gray to match the rest of the car 744, inspiration - Mosselman Silver Arrow R129 for the paint/wheel colors
