I needed to talk to some people and look at some things in The Hague so took the opportunity to meet Jelmer and Michel.

The sight-seeing in Gent was postponed due to bad weather but Dunkirk is no substitute.

My trip to Van der Velde was unrewarding.

Nice lil' 'trip' there Jim !!

Always nice to meet up with other like-minded folk...especially in another country.

Very nice trip. You must have experienced a lot of difference in sociality and way of living? When going over a boarder and immediately see and feel (Belgian roads:mrgreen:) another country.

To bad you missed the south of The Netherlands!

Regards,

Nick

Re: Visit The Netherlands, Belgium and France

Thanks Nick, I lived in The Hague for about ~4 years and appreciate the different culture. South of The Netherlands....yes that border line intrigues me...I guess there is some serious history that makes it that shape. Looks like another trip is required. I see a few posts so if you are not a long term lurker, a belated welcome.

I forgot to put in my write up that the windscreen wiper started to hesitate at about mid wipe. It just managed to complete the sweep only to hesitate on the way back. I switched the wiper speed to fast and let it run for a while while driving. after a few sessions like that the normal sweep got back to normal more or less. Having been in the Middle East for some years I expect the mechanism grease has really dried out. I wonder if there is a maintenance procedure (WD40?) for the wiper unit...anyone?

Do NOT use WD-40. It is not a lubricant, but rather a fluid that is designed to preserve metals (hence the name Water Displacement-40). It is best to remove and lubricate the pivot points, cams, gears and sliding surfaces of the wiper mechanism with a grease (such as the MB "Gleitpaste" for sunroofs) that is designed to withstand weather and use. Ideally the wipers should be cleaned and greased every couple of years, but it's an oft-neglected item.

My two cents.

Cheers,
Gerry

Well belgium is not that financially wealthy in addition with the Netherlands. Even there political system is a mess; to give a short reason. This year they had even plans to have a merger with The Netherlands and create one country.

I have just a few posts, because I have just joined the forum ass well ass I have only spare free time. But the 500E Board is under favorites so I won't be gone shortly haha!

When there is a new trip, please mention! Maybe it is an idea to get multiply 500E's together one day (For instance at The Nürburgring)?

Regards,

Nick

Uhhu.
... I 'have' to see it in person when I come to A-dam next spring....come visit me on Hemony Straat (?)
;)

About the windshield wipers: if anyone has some more details about the maintenance procedure, it might be worth creating a separate thread for; it's something nearly everyone will experience. Not cleaning = wiper motor working harder = failing quicker.

...you never came to visit me at the 'Katsu' Jelmer. Not that I would have had much to say; all pie-eyed and such.

Next time then... I'll pick you up in a borrowed SL73 if it's not too far from A-dam !

Yes, a .036 meet at the 'Ring would be stellar. Make it so, many will come.
