EIGHT HUNDRED HOURS. omg.

Looks like this was done in 1999-2000 timeframe. I guess 400E values were still high enough to make it worth it, sort of, instead of swapping the 5L into a 400E chassis where it would be a bolt-in?

:wahoo:

Nice find! :thumbsup2:
Make it good again and enjoy the ride! :e500launch:

PS: This was done to a number of cars here in Norway back in the late '90's and over a 5-6 year period. It was done due to an extreme import tax at the time due to rigid and outdated import rules. It is 18 converted 036s here in Norway (incl. 1x CE and 2x stationwagons):
- regular 124 chassis upgraded with separate 036 items
- chassis spliced with 036 front section and regular W124 rear end
- chassis replacement i.e. only paperwork, the car is the real bones

@edwin.dario,
I’m not usually a fan of blue cars but I am making an exception for yours.That deep blue is fantastic looking. That’s a nice score.

As for the knock. I’m sure it will be fixable. It’s hard to blow up a M119 engine without just complete neglect and I would suspect that anyone putting that much interest, time & $$$ into this or any project would be in that category.

Most knocks seem to be related to the timing chain rails. The chain ends up banging on a valve cover. Also a failed chain tensioner can cause a knock . One of our members @Jlaa had a similar knock that turned out to be the water pump. Check out his owner thread to hear it.

Good Luck with your car. I know once you get it sorted you’re going to love driving it.

Take Care
